In comparison, 51 percent of the poll's respondents said they’d prefer to remain in the state, while 2 percent remained undecided. According to the poll, 20 percent of respondents said it was likely, somewhat likely or likely that they’d leave the state in the coming year. Nearly 80 percent said it was unlikely.

Respondents cited the state’s taxes, weather, government and jobs as the main reasons for wanting to leave the state. According to the poll, 27 percent cited taxes, 16 percent blamed the weather, 15 percent cited government and 13 percent pointed to jobs and education.

Illinois is basically 2 states. I live in downstate Illinois. We want no part of upstate Illinois. I consider interstate 80 as the dividing line. Mostly rural and conservative below I-80. Mostly urban and liberal above I-80. I would be gone now but the wife won’t leave the grand children.
Illinois is a mess!

I grew up in Springfield. Of course it’s the Capital with all of the corruption centered there due to the Government. But, it’s an imported Chicago corruption. Native Springfieldians are like most of the downstate folks. Friendly and relatively conservative. Visiting Chicago was like going to a different nation.

Chicago corrupts everything it comes in contact with. Horrid place.

The residents of IL have been voting for corrupt LIBERAL Democrats in all levels of government who have been running the state for decades.

The situation is largely their own fault. They have been defecating in their own beds for decades and now that they are up to their nostrils in liberal Democrat poo of their own making they want to pack up, move to another state and begin the process of defecating in their own beds all over again!

The solution is not moving: THE SOLUTION TO THEIR PROBLEM IS: STOP WHAT YOU'VE BEEN DOING BY VOTING OUT OF OFFICE EVERY LIBERAL DEMOCRATIC OFFICE HOLDER AND ELECTING SOLID, HONEST, NON-DEMOCRAT CONSERVATIVES IN THEIR PLACE.

My daydream is someday escaping the People’s Republic of Massholistan and moving someplace where the cost of living is less and the people believe in something besides government. Someday!

I don't even know where to start on the bolded part but you are so correct. It's a huge problem that has bloated many local a state governments as well as our federal government. That whole people believing in government has led us to the massive debt we have.

One huge obstacle to getting government back in control here in my state has been the local medias. Once something is threatened to be cut from government, the media starts parading the victims and creates outrage, then our Governor backs down. Cuts are needed in our government due to years of irresponsible spending but the media and its whole leftist culture and their belief in government will use and abuse their power to keep the government bloated and irresponsible.

I sometimes wonder if the country will have to go bust before these people understand they went way too far in their government belief, and they see the damage they have done.

Here in Kansas the last few elections we've removed a lot of liberal big government Republicans. The problem now is the local medias have gone on the offensive as the guardians of big government.

We put the right people in to do the job of cutting our bloated government but now the local medias will trot out the victims and conjure up outrage over the necessary cuts till the politicians back down.

I wish our politicians would take a cue from Trump and ignore our local medias and put them in their place but so far, they haven't. The local medias are another obstacle to getting governments under control at the state and local levels as well.

Never ending battle, but if you want to save your state it has got to be fought. Your right about Trump vs the feckless politicians.

Hey Illinois, instead of moving out, make your liberal politicians move out.

I’d love to get away from Illinois/Chicago but I can’t get my wife to agree on it (she has family up here). I tried to get her to move to Texas, but that didn’t work (sigh). At least Illinois now has a concealed carry law.

"Oh stop talking out of your hat about that which you know nothing of."

I know plenty of what I'm talking about. You and few of your friends and family may be the exception, but the fact remains that, liberals leaving liberal states because of the heavy tax burden will continue to vote as liberals, thereby changing the political makeup of where they have moved into. I've been in Florida for close to 30 years, and it used to be reliably conservative, but in the last 10 or so years, it has trended democrat. I know first hand of what I'm talking about, with members of my family who left New York, and voted democrat all their lives, and moved to Florida where the cost of living was lower and with no income tax, and they continue voting democrat. I ask them why and they respond that, it's what they've done all their lives and are afraid to change. I'm not proud of those family members, as far as their politics is concerned. I know a lot of other people who "think" the same who have moved to Florida but brought their stinking liberalism with them.

Illinois folks are feeling the Soetero socialist burn. I bet California is about the same. Live by Ferndale and it’s sort of a pocket of sanity but cost of living is really, really bad. I wonder when the methane bags will be on all the cattle out here and/or if they’ll be filling hot air balloons straight from the manure spreaders.

“I know a lot of other people who “think” the same who have moved to Florida but brought their stinking liberalism with them.”

Well, you better watch out, because I’m moving to Florida, my sister lives in Florida, my other sister and nephew living in northern GA are moving to FL too, as well as my other relatives living in AL who are moving to FL also (all to the West Coast), so here we come. And we all once lived in IL, and have and are escaping it, slowly but surely.

So, I guess we are all the conservative exceptions to your liberal meme. Can hardly wait until our family diaspora will once again congregate, all of my family, in your State. I might add, your State is changing demographically because of the influx of Latino’s, not because of so many new northern liberals. Around the Miami area for years it has always been a Mecca for New Yorkers to move to, and you are right, they brought their Dem “values”, and I use that term loosely, with them. But with that exception, many retirees and other younger families from the North, are escaping to FL for first, the weather, and tied for first, to get away from the liberal North.

You paint with a broad brush, but it is primarily the Latino’s, in particular the younger brainwashed by our educational system ones, that are changing FL more purple, along with escaping Puerto Ricans, jumping to the mainland, in particular to around Miami. Miami is pretty much a lost cause, like most major urban areas (Tampa has become another too liberal city.) Moral of the story, don’t locate in the big cities of just about any State if you don’t want to be around liberals.

I live in the Twin Cities and for the last twenty years, it’s felt like half of illinois (and parts of northern Indiana) have already moved up here.

“Cut Chicagoland loose, and IL becomes a solid Republican state”

Minnesota (suprisingly) is the same way.

Cut away the inner cities (and first ring suburbs) of Minneapolis and St Paul and you have a GOP-leaning state.

Sorry, we’re closed.

If they dislike the weather in Illinois, they'll absolutely hate it in Texas. Add to that scorpions and red ants, it's hellish down here!!! lol

I hear you. So very true. We've had a setback here as the local medias waged a successful campaign to blame our current budget mess on the Republicans during the primaries (much of the mess goes back to the Sebelius regime and the past liberal Republicans). Quite a few conservative Republicans lost their seats to more liberal Republicans this go round.

It's sad that the local medias abuse their power to try to get these things done they want. It's also sad that only a few people in newsrooms around the state have so much say in what gets done by abusing their power.

I've been a big advocate of exposing even the local medias here and elsewhere. I've even got in to it with liberal news directors around here. Americans need to learn to not trust them as well as their national counterparts. They still have a lot of people trust the locals but they needs to be exposed and changed.

That is so true. This November we have a bunch of ballot questions. True to form, the media colludes with the special interest (this fall it is teachers unions) to warn of the terrible, awful, horrific catastrophe that will occur if Question X passes. The lawn signs are all over the place for this year's battleground (expanding charter schools) and the news pieces will appear in earnest in a week or two. Sadly, voters here don't think, they feel and fall for it almost all of the time (we have defeated some tax increases, thankfully).
