Five men brutally attacked and robbed a Citi-Biker early this morning in Central Park and police believe the suspects are responsible for another robbery on Friday night, police sources said.
Jacob Angstreich, 47, was cruising through the park near 95th Street and East Drive around midnight Monday when he saw a group of young teenagers walking towards him.
One of them intercepted me as I was getting closer to him he told me to get off the bike and then he punched me and knocked me off the bike, Angstreich recounted to The Post over the phone Monday afternoon.
I fell off the bike and fell over a little fence onto the grass side of the road and he grabbed the bike and started to ride off it was pretty scary, I was trying to size up what it was they wanted.
Angstreich said his iPhone 7 fell out of his pocket and another one of the young men, who all looked to be about 15 or 16 years old, spotted it and snatched it up.
He shouted to the others I have an iPhone 7! Im going to keep it! then he ran off.
Angstreich started chasing the bike bandits on foot after they ditched the filched Citi Bike but couldnt catch up.
Friday night, a Hunter College student told cops a similar tale.
Narish Singh, 21, was leaving the park around 11:30 p.m. when he realized he was being followed by 8-10 males and started speed walking to get away, law enforcement sources said.

I would never run or bike late in the day.
This guy and others like him are seeking the Darwin Award, IMHO.
Revised concealed carry would fix this crap real quick
It would be a pleasure to bike into the Bronx at night in Central Park armed like Paul Kersey (Charles Bronson in Death Wish).
I would put Special Forces on bikes until the problem went away.
Where I am there is a group called “midnight riders.” It is absolutely insane to ride this late at night no matter how well prepared for the ride. Reasons include it is dark, people cannot see you, and consider the time—there are a lot of drunks on the road. Sure enough, a few few got mowed down by a drunk driver. I am a rider, but use a little common sense when riding; it is absolutely insane to ride this late.
They might even consider going straight.
Boy stories like this are taking me back to the great years of the Dinkins administration in NYC. Democrats in charge = fear for your life
We call that suicide by MLK Blvd.
Pray America wakes
This stupid SOB is really lucky he wasn’t killed or maimed for life.
It’s open season on NYC dwellers, the communists are in charge and the cops are only looking out for themselves .
Cyclist = white guy and “ teens “ equals sons of Obama .
"males"
I was nearly run over by a car a few weeks ago who was coming out of a doctor's office parking lot.
He didn't see me...he probably wasn't even looking.
I no longer ride during the week.
And when I ride on the weekends, I am unusually careful even in parking lots and on sidewalks.
The greatest danger is the driver who is on the phone or texting.
Situational awareness is imperative.
I now have a foot down rule. Where there might be danger, I stop and put a foot down. When I see there is no danger, I start again.
I am a committed cyclist; a cycle-commuter, and I have studied the statistics exhaustively.
I can tell you that as cyclist you are 5 to 6 times MORE likely to be killed, per mile, than motorist.....
BUT
If you commit to
a) not do anything stupid or illegal, and
b) AVOID DRUNK DRIVERS
you are SAFER than a motorist, per mile.
What was the teens (blacks?) doing in Central Park at midnight? I know my parents would never let me out sat midnight and truthfully, I wouldn’t...
parents
= = = = = = = = = =
Why does cynical me think the key word in your statement is parentS ????
Excellent advice. “Avoid stupid decisions, illegal actions and drunk drivers.”
I have cycled regularly in San Francisco, Rome and Los Angeles. Romans are the best drivers for avoiding cyclists, since they deal with scooters. San Franciscans have friendly bus drivers and skillful taxi drivers avoiding cyclists. But Los Angeles has big trucks and fast sports cars zipping by cyclists which is dangerous.
In summary, please cycle regularly for fitness and savings. Please cycle with on quiet, well-lit streets with full lights on bike and reflective clothes. Avoid busy highways, dark streets and bad neighborhoods. Gangsters in Oakland and McArthur Park will gang up on you and block your freedom. Cycling at night in Central Park in NYC seems foolish.
Hmmm.... I wonder if they could be Obama’s sons?
Speed walking is how you get away from a deranged infirm person on a mobility scooter.
