If that’s the worst of it then they should all be glad that it wasn’t as severe as it had been predicted.

It’s interesting to listen to the newscasts. The bigger the storm, the better for their ratings, so they keep talking about the wind velocity near the eye but downplay the wind that people are actually experiencing on land.

Not that this is not a big deal. It is. And we have yet to find out how strong the storm surge will be, but It looks like the coast may have dodged a bullet based on where it’s been and where it is projected to go.

Matthew is a fizzle in Jax. Max wind predicted now is 44 MPH this afternoon.

DAGNABBIT! At least we could have had a little more storm to make our window covering drill more worthwhile! DW and I got drenched yesterday putting up our window coverings. It was good exercise, though!

OTOH, like the umbrella you don’t have when it storms, if we had not put them up, I’d be in a blackout condition with 100 MPH winds howling, no power and wondering if it will ever end, and if our windows/roof survive!

“Count your blessings” Irving Berlin said in his famous 1954 song.

So, DW and I are grateful that Matthew fizzled! Even though we got far more exercise yesterday in the rain than our 75 year old bodies wanted or needed! LOL!

Hurricane Hunter reporting 945MB, not the sub 920 that was predicted. Daytona current winds @ 46mph.

The storm wobbled east off of Freeport by 20 plus miles which spared Brevard and Indian River and places north .
Then the Wind shifted to North by NW which made a huge differences .

All the major wind stayed off shore.

Yeah

The dangerous thing is that the next time there's similar weather, the public won't believe a crying-wolf enemedia even if there IS a horrible danger approaching.

TV news, whether it's weather, politics, international affairs, sports shenanigans, law enforcement, whatever, is now all high drama, theater and play-acting by glib TV "stars" in the relentless chase for ratings and advertising dollars.

And we keep on running electric wires overhead, from pole to poll like a string and two paper cups.

Went through several storms when I worked in Houston. The winds can very with altitude. Power outages are a real bother but not life threatening unless your on life support or a pajama boy. Best thing to do is get out the chainsaws, rakes and shovels and start cleaning things up.

Still praying for safety of all.

It's hard to understand politicizing the weather. I wonder if Obama Soetero the Demon seed will declare victory and/or a new ad will show him raising his hand( doesn't need Aaron's rod) and rebuking the storm.

I was watching Weather channel coverage of this yesterday evening. The correspondent was standing outside trying to gin up the storm's intensity. I've been through a couple of hurricanes in Houston, and they guy was not standing in severe winds. At one point, they cut to him and the wind was hardly blowing at all. Reminded me of Rita when the weather report zoomed in on a can rolling on the pavement as an example of "gale force winds".

I'm sure this is a bad storm, but fortunately, it appears to have stayed more offshore than on.

I was listening to Rush this afternoon when the news was updated. The news person on site somewhere in Florida made the mistake of interviewing a local resident.

How’s everything holding up he asked? Resident responded, it’s not been bad at all. I’d call it a half hurricane. You could feel the disappointment in the reporters voice.
