The Cascade Mall shooting suspect, Arcan Cetin, may face an additional investigation related to his voting record and citizenship status.
Federal sources confirm to KING 5 that Cetin was not a U.S. citizen, meaning legally he cannot vote. However, state records show Cetin registered to vote in 2014 and participated in three election cycles, including the May presidential primary.
Cetin, who immigrated to the United States from Turkey as a child, is considered a permanent resident or green card holder. While a permanent resident can apply for U.S. citizenship after a certain period of time, sources tell KING his status had not changed from green card holder to U.S. citizen.
While voters must attest to citizenship upon registering online or registering to vote at the Department of Licensing Office, Washington state doesn't require proof of citizenship. Therefore elections officials say the state's elections system operates, more or less, under an honor system.
"We dont have a provision in state law that allows us either county elections officials or the Secretary of State's office to verify someones citizenship," explained Secretary of State Kim Wyman.

“...the state’s elections system operates, more or less, under an honor system.”
Oh, puh-leez!
Therefore, measures such as verifying citizenship of registering voters or checking IDs of voters must be labeled racist.
You are absolutely correct!!!
Sec. of State Wyman is disingenuous saying that non-citizens voting isn’t a big issue here in Washington. Fact is, we have a rather large population of illegal immigrants from all over the world, the largest group of these people coming from Mexico, Central and South America. Reputable studies have been conducted that peg the number of ineligible voters at 12-25% of those here in the state either legally or illegally. The lower number is based upon the number of non-citizens who actually admit to voting in our elections. The 25% figure doubles the number to account for the non-citizens who vote, but don’t admit to doing it.
Washington is/has been a solidly blue state for decades. Trying to get legislation that would demand proof of citizenship to register to vote would be nearly impossible. These non-citizen voters have been the tipping point for Democrats in too many close elections over a lot of years. They won’t give up on those bogus voters without a hell of a fight and you can be sure it will be accompanied by loud accusations of racism.
I can’t believe anyone in the federal government is investigating this.
A states voting system requirements should match its gun buying requirements.
That is unexpected. America’s domestic enemies on the left have consistently assured us that there is no vote fraud, yet this sounds like vote fraud.
Why “may probe”?
Why not “have already investigated every detail”?
Shocked! Shocked I tell you! To learn that non-citizens voted for Hillary!
Here are your ballots, sir.
“Oh, puh-leez!”
You really can’t have an honor system in a multicultural society.
Honor systems only work when honorable people are the participants.
No FReepin' way! Considering that of the 12-25% votes and about 75% will vote Dem, this is a complete usurpation. Nice reply BTW.
I wonder if the state can be sued under the premise of equal protection. For instance, if an illegal votes for Hillary, can a resident who voted for Trump claim that his right to vote was harmed due to lack of proper identification.
