A Tennessee man wore a gorilla mask, carried a rope and tried to hand out bananas at a college Black Lives Matter protest Wednesday, police said.

East Tennessee State University campus police arrested freshman student Tristan Rettke, who is white, on a charge of civil rights intimidation following the disruption, the Johnson City Press reported. University officials condemned his act and scheduled a community discussion.

A video published by the newspaper showed the man later identified as Rettke wearing overalls and also holding a burlap sack with a marijuana leaf and Confederate flag on it. He dangled a banana with the rope toward the dozen or so demonstrators in the video.

I’m sure he has a wonderful sense of humor, but his survival meter seriously needs recalibrating.

One thing in this story that caught my eye is that the kid is a freshman. Also, he appears to be wearing no shoes.

Ten bucks says he's pledging for a fraternity and was ordered to do this. LOL.

Tasteless, but why the hell is it a crime?

They probably arrested him on a B.S. charge just to have a reason to get him out of there.

As per the article, the charge is “civil rights intimidation”. Such an obamatarded charge.

The article says there were BLM protests for 3 days at that Tennessee University, I can see people being offended at that and so, making a bit of a counter-protest.

Some lawyer, even the ACLU, yes, I know they are leftists but they have defended other causes as well, someone may come out and defend this guy.

He has a right to free speech too.

I did a little bit of research on Tristan Rettke; at a high school in Hendersonville TN. over the past few years, there is the name of a LaCrosse and Ice Hockey player with this name. So, it is an interesting story.

I just posted an excerpt; one of the protesters said, it wasn’t really a problem.

It’s kind of a funny story too; if all it is is this little act and doesn’t go beyond that.

Sounds like he did it on a peaceful campus.

Now, if he did it in Detroit...

It’s been scary, and it’s getting scarier. I’m getting to the point of wondering, “What will be my moment, When will I break.” Perhaps melodramatic. Perhaps not.

I ask this question seriously. I get the tastelessness of this stunt, but to many of us, dissing the national anthem is tasteless and offensive. Why is some freedoms of expression better than other freedoms of expression?

Exactly and we already know, Black Lives Matter says some outrageous offensive things. They too, I heard in the BLM charter call Israel an "apartheid state". So, this is a bit of a thought crime.

Maybe the guy should NOT hand out bananas, that is a bit in your face but if one just goes to the protests, in this garb, with a banana on a rope and the mask, that should not be in excess. But again, a lot of what BLM does is "in your face" as well. I don't know if the University sanctioned 3 days of protests or what.

“He has a right to free speech too.”

I absolutely agree. He has a perfect right to go to a BLM protest, in a gorilla mask, and to try to hand out bananas. And if he gets his ignorant self killed dead, I am sure that will be a huge comfort to his family to know that his action passed constitutional muster.
