Donald Trump’s running mate is breaking with the Republican nominee’s claim that climate change is not the result of human activity.

Vice presidential nominee Mike Pence said Tuesday “there’s no question’ that human activity affects both the climate and the environment. […]

Pence, appearing separately on CNN, said, “let’s follow the science,” but he warned against rushing into environmental restrictions that drive jobs out of the country and put Americans out of work. …

Flickering of the solar output on a time scale of millennia is the zillion ton elephant in the room.

If anything, patterns of past temperature fluctuations suggest another cold plunge is coming up, which was why the earlier concern about a global freeze.

IF this can be moderated by means of something that can be done to the atmosphere, then in fact that kind of global warming at this time in history would be a good thing, not a bad one.

I suppose it’s a “real effect” like a fart in a hurricane is real.

some cities in China and other parts in the world the pollution is so bad it does have an impact on their immediate climate area.. that’s about it

If he meant the "pollution is bad", then fine. No one wants raw sewage and toxic chemicals in their food and drinking water. If he meant he believes that man is causing the climate to change, he's a dumbass.

Well, we have the EPA poisoning the Animas River.

The Feds said it is now OK. Does that mean that Feds believe that humans nave no effect?

They don’t really care about the climate. It is just another emotional trigger for more Govt. control.

The sun generates massive amounts of electromagnetic and thermal energy from its thermonuclear fusion processes and even more when it flares. These processes also effect gravitational forces and our orbit around the sun. Our orbit is dynamic and we get drift closer and further from the sun varying the amount of heat energy we receive along with increased energy we get from flares.

“Follow the science” means just what, buster, anyhow?

I think if we really DID follow it, we’d find over half of it as it exists today is just bunk.

Maybe Pence is being crazy like a fox here and is setting up an expose’. Dunno.

But to a first order of approximation, we can’t even pin anything in worldwide climate upon AGW effects. It’s all speculation.

Agreed,we can effect pollution and a little local climate but that’s not the earth. Maybe that’s what Pence meant, we do effect the environment in that way. But no way humans effect earth wide climate change, idiot liberals trying to make humans God.

The problem with “following the science” is that the science has been driven by political considerations and assumptions are being made that are not really borne out by recent observations.

Probably the best summary of human influence on global climate is that we are perhaps adding a half degree of warmth to a complex climate system that is mainly driven by natural variability factors, and it also appears from the data that much of the increase takes place in overnight minimum temperatures which somewhat reduces the impact as drought stress would be driven more by increases in daytime maximum temperatures.

As to purported increases in tropical storm and severe weather frequency, these are highly controversial theories even among weather scientists who are open to the AGW hypothesis, and must be treated as unproven. Some recent data actually suggest the opposite trends, i.e., fewer damaging hurricanes and a downturn in severe storms.

Trump is absolutely right to be skeptical and not to commit America to further wasteful spending on costly and ineffective alternative energy projects. Hillary Clinton is dreaming in technicolor if she thinks that solar energy and wind turbines will drive an economic boom. They are more likely to bankrupt the nation and allow the competition (especially China) to speed past America with their reality-based economies.

Magic unicorns are for kids to read about, not for serious politicians to summon as economic saviors.
