Shattuck: True blue-collar billionaire Donald Trump shows Hillary Clinton is out of touch
The Boston Herald ^ | 09-27-16 | Tom Shattuck

Posted on 09/27/2016 5:41:19 AM PDT by calvincaspian

Donald Trump made it very clear last night that he is disgusted with Washington. Unluckily for Hillary Clinton, she is the standard-bearer for the Washington establishment and he didn’t let her forget it.

He spoke to the plight of the middle class and hammered big, clumsy government and tax increases as the cause.

Hillary repeatedly called on “fact checkers” to mobilize. It sounded like what it was — an appeal to the complicit media to join the battle on her behalf.

Trump won the evening last night in the first 30 minutes. He scored so many points in the first quarter that you can put that debate in the win column.

All she could talk about was how Trumpw was nothing but a successful billionaire...

And I was like “YEAH! THAT’S GREAT!!!”

I believe they were each true to form. Trump is change and Clinton is status quo.

Trump did not make any major gaffes and landed some good blows so it was a successful night for him. Those who are disappointed expected miracles. Trump being Trump is what got him where he is. If he changed styled, it would be phony.

Clinton spouted the expected pablum that she’s been dishing out on the campaign trail and in her ads. That was clearly her goal and she looked good and didn’t appear frail. She’s easy to tune out because it’s so predictable. Trump keeps people’s attention because he is not scripted.

After the debate, Trump admitted that he had some openings re the Clinton Foundation, but didn’t take them out of respect for Clinton’s family, especially Chelsea whom he seems to have a fondness for. That admission will gain him some points.

When she brought up her husband and what a great job he did, I hope every feminist soiled themselves.

I wish Trump had said something along the line of, "opinions about your husband's performance certainly vary, but either way, you are not your husband. Furthermore, the world situation has changed, the economy has changed, and if all you propose to do is to mimic your husband's policies hoping to fit a square peg into a round hole -- Lester, be quiet -- then America is in for a bad four years if you're elected."

Considering the state of this world and our country it was awkward, if not, inappropriate for Hillary to have that big fake smile on her face the whole time. Does she have a face that is just normal and serious for times like this? Or is it just crazy angry woman and full on ear to ear fake smile for this creature?

His most powerful part was when he spoke of the inner cities. The people living there don't care about statistics, fact-checkers, or government programs. They want to be safe in their homes. Trump pounded that point over and over, and drove a stake in the heart of Hillary when he pointed out that people like her only show up there every four years.

He was so passionate that it's hard for me to think that he did not pick up a LOT of points there.

Those comments were meaningless to the typical Hilary supporter. They are so used to getting the inner city votes that they don't even think about reaching the people there.

You won't hear it from the pundits, but I think he really struck a chord.

Hillary wants to raise taxes on the rich and “invest” the tax receipts in the middle class. For someone who claims to deal only in specifics, she doesn’t bother with details on how that can be done. And the profit sharing idea is laughable. Reflects someone who is completely clueless on how to run a business or grow the economy. It does reflect someone who is a narrow minded Marxist ideologue.

Trump, on the other hand, can be very specific in how to carry out his proposals.

Nope they didn’t. Hillary would probably ask for more homework...in school, not now, it would interfere with her naps

Hillary won points last night and Trump won votes last night. He likely won the election last night.

In debates #2 and #3 Trump will be better and Hillary will be the same.

My wife thought Hillary would breakdown and cry after watching the first 20 minutes. I was hoping she face planted during one of her blatant lies.

Not with me, and I'm not the only one. Wife told me about that and I hit the ceiling - that's squishy Romney/Establishment B/S. aka the elite country club vs the Brown Shirts. The Democrats will make any sleazy comment/charge to further their agenda and our side is "too gentlemanly" to respond.

Chelsea would eat him and crap him out if given the chance, with that big toothy smile the whole time. He thinks that apple fell far from the tree?

I thought the media was in the battle on her behalf.

I was hoping they would accidently replace her meds with a truth serum. I had just got done watching LiarLiar with Jim Carrey. It would have been Hillarious.

You only have to go for the jugular if it’s the only way to win. Trump is sitting in a good place right now, so he can afford to hold back some.

Trump was firm, but didn’t go over the top. If he had gone over the top, that would have been the top news story for the next week and would have played into the narrative that he’s scary, undisciplined and reckless. He showed restraint and, in doing so, he brought some fence sitters over to his side.
