The vast majority of viewers who tuned in to the clash between the candidates thought Clinton cruised to a resounding victory, heaping pressure on Trump to perform at the next debate on October 9.
In total, 62 per cent of viewers thought Clinton won the debate, which covered topics such as fighting Islamic State and dealing with race relations in America.
Surprisingly, only 27 per cent of debate watchers felt Trumps performance was the most impressive.
However, the CNN/ORC poll of viewers who watched the debate from home is understood to include more Democrats than Republicans, which is not a fault of the TV channel's information gathering approach, rather a representation of which political demographic is more likely to vote in snap polls.

Yup.
Nothing interrupted Trump’s rise in the polls.
People have made their minds to vote for Trump.
He will become our next President and Hillary needed a real game changer to stop it.
Holt didn’t deliver it for her, that is for sure.
I saw a very brief post somewhere on a media story leading up to the debate last night (not on FreeRepublic) with an interesting bit of information. Trump actually has something like 65% more Twitter followers than Clinton does. That itself is a remarkable indicator of the enthusiasm gap for the two candidates — even among younger people.
Trump is going to win in November.
I’m now 95% sure of it.
After the first debate, the picture in regards to that is much more clear.
By all accounts, Hillary needed something big to reverse the trend and she didn’t get it.
Not what the Left and the MSM hoped would happen last night.
Is he a hobbit? Sod off swampy!
To say they didn't look confident would be an understatement. They looked like they were making a hostage tape.
Here are just a couple that someone posted last night:
DNc talking point
Don't know about that, but the word "precious" does come to mind!
The MSM is crowing about Pickle’s win, but even if you cede that, it was a pyrrhic victory. The optics of Pickles hiding behind Holt’s skirt time and time again was not lost on the American public.
Bill’s been nipping at the embalming fluid again.
“Holt was terrible. Lobbing softballs to Hillary while grilling Trump on utter nonsense.”
The few times I tuned in, Holt scolded the audience for applauding for Trump, but when there was applause for PIAPS, not one word from him. Do people notice these things, I wonder?
It was no shock loss for Trump, he did well and she did well, with the help of Lester of course. I would call it more of a draw with Trump slightly ahead because people noticed her hiding behind Lester’s skirt.
I think her fans were also invigorated by the fact that she didn’t have a seizure on stage.
Seems we have another “debate” on who came out on top.

Lester Holt — Clinton House Boy.
Race of Obama NEVER had anything to do with legal documentation to certify whether or not there was eligibility to hold the office. Tying race to the birth certificate subject is illegitimate and a purposeful diversion to spike emotion and quash rules of evidence.
Zackly!
Even of the measly 26% of CNN viewers polled who called themselves “Republican,” you can be sure that most were of the Lester Holt variety of Republican.
And Lester Holt, who also claims he is a Republican, was on Hillary’s side against Trump the entire debate.
