ISIS is suspected of firing a shell with mustard agent that landed at the Qayyara air base in Iraq Tuesday where US and Iraqi troops are operating, according to several US officials.
The shell was categorized by officials as either a rocket or artillery shell. After it landed on the base, just south of Mosul, US troops tested it and received an initial reading for a chemical agent they believe is mustard.
No US troops were hurt or have displayed symptoms of exposure to mustard agent.
One official said the agent had "low purity" and was "poorly weaponized." A second official called it "ineffective."
A US defense official said troops had gone out to look at the ordnance after it landed. Based on seeing what they thought was a suspect substance, two field tests were conducted.
The first test was positive and the second was negative, the official said. The substance is now being sent to a lab for further examination.

So, you would have to save MOST of your anger for the Oriental ASIANS, since so many are Muslims. There are also a BUNCH in Africa. There are also a BUNCH of Muslims here in the USA, even some with Farrakhan. Remember that asshole jerk?
Now, your initial premise may be right, but it is just as likely that ISIS would try to hit a US base with a WMD, simply for the propaganda value (to them) and because they WANT Armegeddon / the US drawn in. If ISIS can go out in a blaze of glory, they believe that will ignite a greater Muslim war that will result in the Caliphate they so dream of...
As for an immediate counter-battery response, why would the base counter-fire? The reputed ISIS shell apparently missed badly, and the base only had “suspicion” about it, so they went out to investigate. By the time they had their rather shaky “confirmation”, whoever fired that shell was almost certainly long gone.
Conspiracy theories are fun, but the simplest explanation is usually the most likely: The US bombing of the Syrian Army was most likely a snafu. (Repeated strikes on a “friendly” target, even then the recipient is screaming “friendly!”, are not uncommon. Pat Tillman sadly comes to mind.) The embarrassment & negative repercussions from this incident are greater than any “message” sent to Assad: He knows the Russians would intercede if he was in real danger, and no one I know of thinks the US wants a direct conflict with Russia in Syria.
Clarification: The shell landed within the base, but, that’s an area with a 20 km perimeter. Lots of open area. No one was hurt & nothing was damaged, from what I’ve read.
I should also clarify that this is not a US base (poor wording by me), but it sounds like it almost might as well be one...
But, there were no WMDs in Iraq.
