ISIS is suspected of firing a shell with mustard agent that landed at the Qayyara air base in Iraq Tuesday where US and Iraqi troops are operating, according to several US officials.
The shell was categorized by officials as either a rocket or artillery shell. After it landed on the base, just south of Mosul, US troops tested it and received an initial reading for a chemical agent they believe is mustard.
No US troops were hurt or have displayed symptoms of exposure to mustard agent.
One official said the agent had "low purity" and was "poorly weaponized." A second official called it "ineffective."
A US defense official said troops had gone out to look at the ordnance after it landed. Based on seeing what they thought was a suspect substance, two field tests were conducted.
The first test was positive and the second was negative, the official said. The substance is now being sent to a lab for further examination.

Every time I see a news clip of a string of trucks in Iraq and elsewhere or a group of people on parade in black and flying their Islamic flag I wonder why no one, say from a lurking UAV doesn't drop death on them. 1. last week, the USAF 'dropped death' on the Syrian Army, in four separate air strikes. They were warned after the first attack that the target were friendlies. Three more strikes followed, killing sixty troops. The SAA and the YPG are the deadliest enemies ISIS have, in Syria;
2. This mustard gas BS is a retrospective attempt to muddy the waters and divert attention from last week's disaster - or perhaps war crime, if as many believe, it was intended to send a message to Assad;

The Iraqi government informed the United Nations 09 July 2014 that it had lost control of a former chemical weapons depot to Islamist insurgents affiliated with ISIS, or IS, and cannot carry out its obligations to destroy what’s stored in the compound. In a letter penned by Iraq’s UN Ambassador Mohamed Ali Alhakim, it was revealed that “armed terrorist groups” took over the Muthanna complex on June 11. Located north of Baghdad, the facility was the main center for chemical weapons production prior to the 1991 Gulf War, and is still home to 2,500 rockets containing the lethal nerve agent sarin.
