One pilot died and another was injured after they ejected from a U.S. Air Force U-2 spy plane that crashed in Northern California Tuesday, an Air Force spokesman confirmed.

What is the preferred plane for reconnaissance then? Depends on the mission. I flew on the RC-135 that worked with the U2.

What is the preferred plane for reconnaissance then? The U-2 because it is much much cheaper to operate. Satellites perform most of the photo reconnaissance; and, the U-2 is used whenever an unscheduled visit is preferred or whenever satellite tracks are not optimal.
