Did I say let him go? Did I say let him renter the vehicle? NO. But you are no way justified, and your career is certainly at an end, if you pop the heads off the people in another vehicle. Been there. They are SUPPOSED to be professionals. They need to know where everyone is.
Read my post 77, out loud and slowly.
There looks to be a black object on the ground between the suspect and the car. Did he drop something, a weapon ?
Normal procedure is the guy gets on the ground PRONTO.
Interesting. In my interactions with law enforcement I’ve never been ordered on the ground.
Then by that logic they should have shot him a minute sooner than they did.
I also thought it was a pistol down by his feet.
Police shine a light on it after they shoot him. They thought it was a weapon.
These cops were never in danger of losing control of the situation. I could buy this shoot 1 on 1 but with all that back up? No way.
Don’t care. I’ll gladly concede he is a bad guy but that doesn’t permit one to endanger others. That is not my point. You ALWAYS look where your round goes if you miss. ALWAYS. Why can we train thousands upon thousands of Marines to understand this but not law enforcement. My ONLY point is, the officer should have moved to the left to create a safer field of fire.
You can see the suspect lower his right arm and put his hand in his pants pocket just before the camera goes behind the car. Then suspect is shot and whatever he pulled from his pants pocket is on the ground between suspect and car. Police even shine a light on it to identify it, they may have thought it was a gun, whether it was or not.
What did you watch?
What makes you say he carjacked someone to begin with.
My ONLY point is, the officer should have moved to the left to create a safer field of fire.
Having personally witnessed an officer involved shooting I can assure you that the only consideration here is the personal safety of the officer. Better to be judged by 12 than carried by six is the law enforcement mentality.
Well, on the ground sound and cameras, along with background info on what he did or was suspected of doing, will tell us much more. I’m sure they’ll be forthcoming.
Male cops get excited after a shooting, too. You want to make sure “shots fired!” doesn’t get lost in the radio chatter, just like “mayday! mayday!”
Why? The police were responding to a stalled car in the road. Not an accident. Not a carjacking. Not a crime of any kind. So why assume he was a threat. Why treat him as a violent suspect when there was no reason to do so?
Screw the personal safety of the officer. THAT is the whole problem, the us against them mentality. His job is to protect and to serve EVEN IF IT MEANS HIS LIFE, sad though that may be. It is not a win if he kills bystanders.
I have been there. You need to know where everyone is and take the best, safest shot possible. These officers do not train or practice these scenarios enough to be competent enough in these situations.
If his "hands were in the air"..as you said...then one or the other hand was not in the air when...you said "and he reached into his vehicle."
“In my interactions with law enforcement Ive never been ordered on the ground.”
Were you ever doing anything dangerous, threatening or stupid?
