Cops didn’t know that at the time.

By that logic the police can shoot anyone on sight since they don't know if they are armed or not.

How have you lived as long as you have?

If I'm committing no crime then police have no reason to detain me. If they have no reason to detain me then there is no obligation to obey their order to halt. But that's the law, something some police officers either don't know or don't care about.

Why they were there is irrelevant to what was happening when the man was shot.

And what was the man doing that justified being shot? Nothing.

None of the articles at AP/NBC/HuffPo mention the fact thst the man refused orders to stop approaching his car, that he lowered his hands when he reached his car, and that the officers didn’t know whether he had a weapon within reach.

They also leave out that there was a 911 call that a man had run from the car yelling "It's going to blow"

Karl is taking the 5th.

More like a 5th of scotch....

Quibbling, sensational, full of assumptions, etc. Karl is living in fantasy land. Maybe he should take a citizens patrol course some LEO shops offer.

They could handcuff him, throw him on the ground and shoot him in the back of the head, right on video, and they would still say self defense.

Thank you for reaffirming my belief that you may be a looney. But just for your edification, the above statement only only applies to Hillary/Obama, not a gumshoe.

My polite post to you and you respond with a snide “look sport” comment?
Firing a sidearm accurately is darned difficult, so I repeat, No matter what you feel, shooting to wound is fantasy. That is a cold fact.

“The cops likely had no idea what this suspect might of had inside the vehicle, in addition to ignition keys.”

So the mere suspicion is grounds for killing someone? Glad I’m not you.

Late 70’s, middle of the night, stopped a pick up, driver falls out the door, drunk, passenger sits there grinning. Told to get out of the pick-up. He refuses and instead the passenger reaches towards the glove box, is told to stop, doesn’t stop and punches the button and the glove box drops open and he reaches in, weapon now drawn by the officer and being pointed at passenger, passenger refuses many calls to freeze, he just grins and quickly pulls his hand out of the glove box while grasping a silver object in his hand as he swings his arm toward the officer. Split-second decision.

Something metallic silver in color in his fast moving hand being brought to bear on the officer - officer fires and passenger found to have small spray paint can in his hand. No firearm found. Passenger lives and says he thought it would be funny to play a “joke” on the officer.

No firearm in the pick-up or on the driver or passenger. Good shoot or not?

In this situation hell yes. Anyone who demonstrates this level of total disregard for the cops commands is clearly capable of anything.

And your question is something I’d expect from some Berkeley no nothing leftist.

FYI, I just cancelled my Lifetime Alumni connection with UCB. Hated the place when I went there fifty plus years ago, and still do. So taky your “Berkeley Leftist crap” and shove it up your a$$! And as long as we have cops who are willing to take a life at the drop of a hat, count me as being against the ones who take that position. It will be interesting to see if this female cop gets a pass on her murdering this guy.

I just cancelled my Lifetime Alumni connection with UCB.

That's very commendable and a good start.☺ And there was no, "Drop of the hat" decision here. They waited way to long to do anything.

I have not touched on this aspect of the incident, but the female cop should have never allowed the suspect to approach that vehicle. The second he turned around and totally disregarded commands and started back to the vehicle, she should have tased him and lit him up good. Maybe she did not have a taser, who knows. Too bad she wasn't a male at 6'3 at 260+ and simply walked up behind him while his back was to them and rang his bell. But that's not what happened. The suspect was twice the size as the female playing cop in this situation and she was probably afraid he would have broke her into pieces. This was very unfortunate for all.

That said, the LEO's knew damn well he could not be allowed to gain entry or reach into that vehicle, which appears exactly what the suspect intended to do.That would be bad mumbo, no bueno.

Regardless of all the comments and positions here, this was not a good or easy situation for anyone involved. When a suspect is this blatant and exhibits this level of out and out total disregard for cops commands, bad stuff happens.
