CNN's Sally Kohn: It's 'good' if conservatives feel unable to speak on campus
Bizpac Review ^ | September 17, 2016 | Blake Neff

Posted on 09/17/2016 1:01:19 PM PDT by kevcol

When Powers argued that speech should be protected because by itself it is never dangerous, Kohn countered by saying Powers failed to recognize her white privilege. Speech that seems harmless to middle or upper-class whites, she said, could be deeply threatening to poor and non-white communities. If somebody claims to feel certain speech is unsafe, Kohn said, they should be believed.

"Feelings are valid," she said, according to Stroup. "I'm never going to argue with people's feelings." Kohn also said it's a good thing if conservatives feel unable to express their views for fear of encountering hostility from their peers or professors.

CNN’s Sally Kohn: Trump must have had her in mind when he called the people at CNN “mostly losers in life.”

Can’t legally happen. Do you really want the feds determining who can say what on cable?

I feel that Sally should be silenced.

Her comments get even worse in the full article.

This is essentially fascism - she wants those she disagrees with to be intimidated into silence. Only people who agree with her should be allowed to speak or even feel comfortable speaking.

In another time you can bet that Sally would have been a lamp shade or a bar of soap and I am certainly one who wouldn’t risk his neck to prevent it.

So my deplorable feelings of racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia and Islamaphobia are valid? Good to know. < /s>

The unstated underlying assumption here, is that designated "protected groups" have the right to not be exposed to speech that makes them uncomfortable.

This special right means that it is the "protected groups" who are the truly "privileged".

OK, so the feelings of supposedly white privileged (more, in the present day, like white-man-burdened) people would be valid too. You wanted diversity you said? You don’t like it when you get it you said?

Agree on both points, but cable networks don’t need broadcast licenses, if I’m not mistaken.

You are right.
CNN does not have an FCC broadcast license.
They have broadcasting licenses in other countries, but not in the USA.

What broadcasting license? They’re on cable. Do you think they should require government approval in order to broadcast?

She said Koch’s argument defended recent protests that seek to silence conservative speakers and events, arguing that those claiming to champion “free speech” are really just trying to give cover for regressive, anti-diversity views.

When Powers argued that speech should be protected because by itself it is never dangerous, Kohn countered by saying Powers failed to recognize her white privilege. Speech that seems harmless to middle or upper-class whites, she said, could be deeply threatening to poor and non-white communities.

Yeah buddy!

Nothing like the `ol adrenaline kick of pure fascists oppression of "wrong-thinking" peons first thing in the morning, eh?

It doesn’t even really believe what it is saying.

This “feelings are valid” thing is a one-way street.

Broadcast license applies only to physical transmitters in the USA. Anyone can go on cable anywhere they can privately arrange to do so. Contracts yes, license no.
