I love Trump but he is on the wrong side of this one.

Should be a private arrangement for employers and employees.

Don't know how much real change is involved here, because many large employers allow both spouses a lot of time off around the time of the birth.

I think it's wrong to force any business to pay for this.

Taken all together, Trump has earned enough chits with me that he can burn one on this issue, if it is good election strategy.

You are correct. The sad reality is that the number of people who are willing to vote for the traditional Reagan definition of conservatism is now too small to win elections.

So we must fight rear-guard actions. We have a two decade re-education slog ahead of us if we truly want conservatism.

I think the six week maternity leave is already a given for big companies. My company has that benefit for at least two decades. It’s tough on fellow workers, but what are you going to do?

Paid! Not a deal breaker, but DJT is WRONG if he thinks this is the business of the federal government.

“Teachers have 16 weeks off to start with.”

Great point.

If teachers schedule their pregnancy right they would have 22 weeks off.

If one has sick time, pay it and when it runs out, leave without pay.

It’s actually around 1.9, not 3.1

No upside. Hitlery will say he is a Neanderthal for not wanting 12 weeks.

I agree with you. This make Trump look more compassionate with the female voters. Should win over many. Gotta give up a bunt once in a while to advance the bases.

No-I’m talking about the maternity leave benefits being paid by the insurance carrier-since childbirth is not a disability of any duration, the only similarity I was using as illustration was that the insurance carrier paid-just like a workers comp insurance carrier pays SIBS, TIBS, etc to a worker injured on the job-having been a comp case manager, it was the best example I could come up with to illustrate the point-sorry if I wasn’t clear...

But I’ll bet if guys were the ones being pregnant and giving birth, pregnancy and childbirth would instantly qualify as a permanent disability-at least 50%-requiring lifetime compensation...

Bush and Reagan both increased government spending by 80% - it’s not like Republicans have been in favor of less government in ages.

I’m long past having babies, but our daughter had her first last October. Her employer gives 3 months maternity leave (paid). His employer gives 6 weeks. From what I saw, they needed every minute.

The baby was nursing, like every other hour for an hour, around the clock during the first maybe 2 months. How do you get up every other hour, nurse a baby, then wake up to go to work by 9?

With the leave time and eventually weaning, they were able to get said baby on a schedule so she sleeps from @ 6:30pm till @ 6:00am, allowing both parents a full nights sleep. When they show up at the office they are wide awake AND productive. Sounds like that generous maternity/paternity leave policy worked out well in this case.

I’d prefer any such leave arrangement being an employer/employee agreement rather than government dictate. Some employers, tho, would not be so generous. Some cannot afford to be so generous, or they would have to close up shop. This could end up with fewer women of baby-rearing ages finding jobs. (lots of opening for us seniors!)

Another upside is it will encourage Americans to have more kids. Gonna have to out breed the Moosepeople to survive in the future.

This is not about employers paying this bill HOWEVER taxpayers will have to pay the UNEMPLOYMENT involved in his plan!!! This country has gone WAY to far left for s to turn the ship on a dime!!! Right NOW my main thing is immigration WITHOUT stopping the flow into our nation we will NEVER get the past 30 years of damage done even STARTED to be repaired!!! Education has destroyed the country we need 2 generations of reeducation of our kids to get rid of the liberal brainwashing in our kids!!! Charter schools popping up everywhere with a Trump POTUS should be a good start in repairing this!!!

There's a big difference between

"I'm going to vote for Trump because Hillary is worse"

and

"I support every single thing that pops into Trump's head"

Lots of people on board with the former but not the latter.

Now he is pandering for the women’s vote. He doesn’t need to do this.

“Teachers have 16 weeks off to start with.”

Yeah, but for most of that time their job doesn’t exist to do.

Fairly expensive. Pay for it how?
