The Clinton campaign's wobbly performance over the past 72 hours has set off a rash of behind-the-scenes handwringing among professional Republicans as they confront an unnerving new possibility: What if their nominee actually wins the White House?
For months, the prevailing wisdom within GOP political circles has been that Donald Trump stands little chance to win in November and a large number of the party's consultants, fundraisers, and operatives privately preferred it that way. Though many of them are reluctant to say so in public, they argue that a Trump presidency would fracture their party, decimate the conservative movement, and wreak havoc on the global economy (not to mention their own industry).

If nothing else, this election has opened the eyes of conservatives as to who are the RINOs, the Sycophants, The Career Politicians, and who are the true Patriots.
It has been very instructive, has it not?
I recall an election in 1992 when Bush seemed invincible, and some third rate huckster and his wife from Arkansas ran and won!
And one other thing:
I cant think of one good thing that would come of it.
If this is true, then the guy is an absolute idiot and certainly not a patriot.
Can you say Supreme Court nominees??? Hello McFly?!!!
The GOP establishment fears a Trump win because it will disrupt the flow of money into their pockets... those that pull their strings will lose influence.. and that, that is what this election is all about.
Will Trump be able to stop all corruption? of course not, but if he can’t be bought, those used to the pay to play are out of power.
Why do you think all those large dollar bush supporters have gone over to back Hillary? because they know she plays their game.... Trump won’t.
This is an opportunity for the Republicans to clean house and for at least a generation paint the democratic party as the party of the corrupt..... If they are willing to actually clean their house... which I doubt they will be.
“...The Conservative Movement is dead and has been. What these elitists call “Conservatism” is anything but...”
I don’t think the Conservative Monement is dead, but the second part of your comment is dead on!!!!!!
There are many, many conservatives out here, just not the elitists....
If a President Trump thinks he’s going to have nothing by allies on the Republican side of the aisle in Congress then he’s going to be sadly disappointed. Ryan and McConnell both think they can control the agenda, and when they find out that they can’t then they aren’t going to be very helpful.
Going back in time, to September 1980, I would not be surprised if there were some ‘republicans’ that were fearing in Ronald Reagan beating Jimmy Carter.
As you say, the conservative movement is long gone, never to be seen again.
,,
“””they argue that a Trump presidency would decimate the conservative movement,”””
These Republicans who are anti-Trump are the ones who decimate the conservative movement.
The Anti-Trump Republicans are behaving like Democrats-—namely allege that your opponent is doing what you are doing.
These are nothing more than hacks trying to protect their theifdom
and their government tit income.
I hope Trump destroys them after he is elected.
wreak havoc on the global economy
Any havoc will come from the policies of Obama
and the Clintons.
The only question to answer is who would you
rather have in charge when it happens?
Donor: “Well Congressman RINO how are you going to get my subsidies and immigrant worker bills past President Trump?”
Congressman RINO: *PANIC*!
Trump is the result of the lip lock of the Republican establishment with Odungo’s anus.
Reminds me of those Idiots that kneel during the national anthem
Twice in recent history had this happened, once on each side.
Reagan was far from what the “party” wanted. Unfortunately he was unsuccessful in purging all the RINOs out, in fact, they did quite well.
Carter was feared in DC as he was an outsider. Again, the demo commies stayed the course and came out the other side fairly well positioned.
All IMO. What is noteworthy is the gang entrenched managed to drag their feet regarding Reagan. Carter had a complicit
group in the Congress.
What an uphill climb Trump will have if he wins. Just getting elected is a chore. Trying to blow those clowns out, beginning with the 2018 Congress will be tougher still.
Republicans Panic. It’s in their DNA.
And, Lyin’ Ted screwed the “Tea Party” worst of all. He hid behind false colors to get elected, then did absolutely nothing productive in the Senate other than self-promotion.
Ted Cruz will NEVER be President.
Lindsey has women's parts....
“What if their nominee actually wins the White House?”
That isn’t really the issue, since Trump isn’t “their nominee,” but rather someone that the “great unwashed” of our country have thrust upon them.
They clearly must mean Republican RINO establishment types.
