FULL Title: "SC high school bans American flags at football game, feared it could be used to ‘taunt or be unsportsmanlike’"
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – School officials’ decision to ban students from displaying the American Flag at a recent football game is creating controversy in a South Carolina school district.
On Friday, Travelers Rest High School principal Lou Lavely banned students from carrying American flags into a football game against Berega High School, because a lot of students at Berega are Hispanic. Lavely contends the American flag could have been used to taunt those students, WNCN reports.
“Some events at last evening’s football game have resulted in concerns being raised in our community. I am writing to assure that any decisions made regarding American flags being permitted into the game were made in the best interests of all attending the game and in the spirit of patriotism and respect for our flag,” Lavely wrote in response to Facebook backlash about the ban, which turned away several students who came to the game with American flags.
“Any decision to not allow the American flag to be used in an improper ‘taunting,’ unsportsmanlike manner is first and foremost in the interests of promoting the safety and well-being of all in attendance at school events. This decision would be made anytime that the American flag, or any other symbol, sign, cheer, or action on the part of our fans would potentially compromise the safety of all in attendance at a school event.”
Lavely’s prepared statement assured community members that officials “have the utmost respect for our flag and strive to display the highest levels of patriotism,” and the school supports veterans, but the potential for taunting was too much to allow the American flag inside of the stadium.

Agreed. Kids can wear shirts saying queer and proud, Stalin, etc, but heaven forbid they fly our flag. The Principle is a racist as how does she know these Hispanics don;t want to fly the Stars and Stripes too.

Why didn’t you display the Stars and Bars? The liberlal idiots would not have recognized it any more that the Bonnie Blue. Because what they were complaining about was not the Stars and Bars but the Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia.

The state where Francis Scott Key wrote our National Anthem while watching the flag fly over Fort McHenry now is BANNING that very same flag at sporting events....

Source, please. I live in the People’s Republic of Maryland, but have not heard of this policy. If verified, I will be drumming up support to have this policy overturned.
What I meant was this event is happening in the state where the Anthem was written...

I never saw this coming with a Democrat president.
Well, people aren’t paying attention .. and a lot of them LOVE what the liberal teachers are teaching .. so yes, it would be difficult.
The only other issue is - homeschool your child; or you could opt for K-12 in some states - which is close to home schooling - and allows for some group activites, except the plan can be adjusted to fit the child’s need - and the parents beliefs.
It used to be called “Alternative Education” in CA - and one of my sons was enrolled in it .. he really excelled; it was amazing.
Oh I did display the Stars and Bars. But amazingly one day my MIL came for a visit and the flag was no where to be found. She hid it in a closet.
I did not make a big stink about it because my wife is going through cancer treatments.
If someone is offended and “triggered” by the Stars and Bars, they need to get their own safe space... like the country they feel most comfortable in.
Smells like the school board needs to call ICE. Yeah, yeah, we all know ICE can’t find an illegal in a Mexican protest parade but still. Those Mexican students are in a US public school, they are not in a Mexican school. They ride to school on a US taxpayer bus and eat US taxpayer breakfasts, lunches and probably dinners. They have their health care, housing, food, clothing, utilites covered by US tax dollars. If they are offended by the US flag, then get the heck out of the US.
This school district needs to lean a severe lesson in who’s signing their paychecks. The US taxpayers own them. It’s time for the school board to be kicked out of office along with the administration and every principal, starting with idiotic Lavely.
Travelers Rest HS, with the flag banning principal, is 77% White and 5% Hispanic. Berega HS is 39% White and 27% Hispanic.
If one is taunted by the presence of the American flag, then he/she is not an American and if in the US, should only be visiting and soon leaving.
