FULL Title: "SC high school bans American flags at football game, feared it could be used to ‘taunt or be unsportsmanlike’"
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – School officials’ decision to ban students from displaying the American Flag at a recent football game is creating controversy in a South Carolina school district.
On Friday, Travelers Rest High School principal Lou Lavely banned students from carrying American flags into a football game against Berega High School, because a lot of students at Berega are Hispanic. Lavely contends the American flag could have been used to taunt those students, WNCN reports.
“Some events at last evening’s football game have resulted in concerns being raised in our community. I am writing to assure that any decisions made regarding American flags being permitted into the game were made in the best interests of all attending the game and in the spirit of patriotism and respect for our flag,” Lavely wrote in response to Facebook backlash about the ban, which turned away several students who came to the game with American flags.
“Any decision to not allow the American flag to be used in an improper ‘taunting,’ unsportsmanlike manner is first and foremost in the interests of promoting the safety and well-being of all in attendance at school events. This decision would be made anytime that the American flag, or any other symbol, sign, cheer, or action on the part of our fans would potentially compromise the safety of all in attendance at a school event.”
Lavely’s prepared statement assured community members that officials “have the utmost respect for our flag and strive to display the highest levels of patriotism,” and the school supports veterans, but the potential for taunting was too much to allow the American flag inside of the stadium.

Tough call. I can see it if the flag is used to taunt the other team because many of them are Hispanic. Most of them are probably US citizens, even if only by the chance of birth, so using the flag to imply they don’t belong here is wrong.
On the other hand, that is our national flag.
Bring the flag, but toss the taunters.
I just hope this crap hasn’t gone beyond repair. So the Spanish might be offended?????? Then let them go home and if they’re natural-born, shame on them.....but the blame really goes to those in charge. Withhold federal funding if school administrators are that stupid!!

Will Berega High School students be similarly disallowed to use the Mexican flag to “taunt” other high schools during sporting events?
Let’s just put it this way. . .we have now two generations in America that have lost their way. There is no getting it back without true repentance from America’s citizens sooner rather than later. Whatever happened to the “good” student stories in the news.
I drove through the Greenville area a few weeks ago. Shocking and depressing how many obvious wetbacks I saw. The shortest little ones are the Mexican dirt farmers, IME. Many don’t even speak Spanish.
...and, yet, this wasn’t stopped/prohibited.
Time for a pre-game burning of a mexican flag.

Caving in to the “Heckler’s Veto” is shameful. That principal should be fired.
There most likely is a rule prohibiting “taunting” and/or “bullying”. Why make the American Flag a part of this? It’s because the rule isnt about taunting, it’s about “Diversity” and Inclusiveness which excludes Americans and their Flags.
A large Hispanic population in South Carolina is of fairly recent vintage. I doubt a majority of students are US born.
On another note, I think the report of the high school name is incorrect. It should be Berea. I’ve never heard of a Berega High School in South Carolina, North Carolina or Georgia. Berea is a neighboring school district, though.

That should be the end of tolerance ... period. We do NOT hide or “dip” our flag to anyone. The idiots that propose this are TRAITORS. In the past tar and feathers were used

What I would suggest is that everyone get a white flag and be able to bring it into the stadium and wave it as much as you want.
