Yes, both candidates make personal attacks on their rivals, but there is no parity in how the two parties stigmatize opponents. Democrat vitriol is liberally applied not just to Trump, but to all his supporters.
Chatting with a California man who had biked across America, I remarked that it must have been interesting to talk with people across the country. His answer? "Are you crazy? I didn't talk to anyone. They're all rednecks."
Character assassination is the liberal weapon of choice against ordinary people. Democrats bully everyone to obey their rules on what we may think and say and do. They have the right because they are protecting blacks, gays, and women from our hidden hatred.
My college-age niece is typical of millennials when she tells me freedom of religion is of no importance, that people must be forced to think correctly about gays. Young people see the Bill of Rights as the handmaiden of bigotry and homophobia.

Wy is it never mentioned that the Klan was/is a Democrat construct?
It used to be an organization that fought for the rights of freed slaves until the republicans took it over. At least that’s what the (never)left wing extremist radicals would have everyone believe.
The KKK just endorsed HILLARY CLINTON.

I've had this discussion with them. They come back with some nonsense about the left and the right swapping ideologies at some point in the past, so it's really been them all along on the right side of everything.
The argument goes that the parties switched. Those democRats are now Republicans.

Ask them to name some Klan Republicans, and when “Sheets” Byrd and George Wallace switched parties.
The author should ask her niece if she would like to be forced to "think correctly" about the proper role of women from the Muslim perspective. Or about any other opinion with which she vehemently disagrees.
I think that many young people take freedom so much for granted that they imagine that in the totalitarian "utopia" they wish for, they would have the same freedoms they have now. It is literally impossible for them to picture what life without freedom would be like.
Used to be calling someone racist was very extreme and could ruin someone's career and/or life.
But they have worn out their welcome by overusing this verbal weapon so much, that most Americans see it as just the Left being unable to hold their own in an argument and resorting to throwing ad hominem slurs at their opponent.
Being call a racist by the liberal Left is proof that you've won the argument because "they got nothing else".
"They come back with some nonsense about the left and the right swapping ideologies at some point in the past..."
I love this myth they tell...
As the story goes, the left would have you believe that the racist southern Democrats were miffed at Johnson for supporting the Republicans (they conveniently leave party affiliation out of the tale) on the Civil Rights Act, so they -- get this -- SWITCH SIDES to the very folks who authored and overwhelmingly supported the Act.
Quite a tale...
Excellent article!
You are absolutely correct. Much like the NeverTrump crowd believes that 4 or 8 years from now the dynamics in this country will remain unchanged and that the vast majority will be hungry for a conservative, after a Hillary Presidency. I know because that has been the consensus response I have gotten from these people (and I must admit I use that term loosely).
Just disregard these lefties and carry on.
Clowns to the left, Jokers to the right. LOL!
Maybe your niece thinks that way but my 22 year old granddaughter sure doesn’t. It’s in the upbringing.
I have long since noticed that if you disagree with a conservative, he’ll argue with you. Disagree with a liberal, he’ll characterize you.
