Gov. Chris Christie on Wednesday rejected legislation to increase the sales of smart guns, saying the measure would make the state inhospitable to legal gun ownership.
Christie, a Republican, conditionally vetoed the measure that would have required state gun retailers to keep an inventory of smart guns, which can be fired only by authorized users. He sharply criticized the Democrat-led Legislature, which sent him the bill for the second time this year in June. He had previously pocket-vetoed the measure.
This bill is reflective of the relentless campaign by the Democratic legislature to make New Jersey as inhospitable as possible to lawful gun ownership and sales, and I refuse to allow that to happen, Christie said.

Christie-Cream said what? Yikes!

That is powerful.
‘Rats need to close the Gun Burglary Loophole first...
It’s a movement.
Are any actually functional “smart guns” even on the market?
BTW, while it’s in my tag, I thought this link was relevant and worth posting again: http://www.truthrevolt.org/videos/bill-whittle-number-one-bullet
Christie did the right thing for the right reasons on a very important issue. He just deserves credit here.
“Smart guns” are a myth spread by the left. “60 Minutes” did a piece on how great they were, by that small arms expert, Leslie Stahl.
“Smart” guns will get you killed.
Is Christie sick...? Shot down an antigunner bill? In NJ?
We live in interesting times.
Yeah I’m in Staten Island and he MUST be banking on a job from Trump because this is YUGE in a northern state.
At least he’s all in with Trump :)
This is like a southern governor saying he’s allowing people to oww tanks!! :)
We need Republican politicians to make arguments like that. Forcefully.
Instead of laying in a fetal position when confronted. **cough** Toomey **cough**
While he isn’t perfect, Christie is a TEA Party governor with all the right enemies - the best governor NJ has had in years. Consistently anti-tax, smaller government, pro-life - not bad for a northeastern state.
He is currently under attack for wanting education dollars spread evenly per-student across the state (instead of non-contributing urban districts receiving twice as much per student as suburban and rural districts).
Hell - or New Jersey (some might say “same thing”) - truly HAS frozen over.
The other condition on his conditional veto is that New Jersey become a “shall issue” state, vs. the current “may issue” policy. To obtain a carry permit now you have to prove a need to be armed, and unless you are “connected” the proof is never sufficient.
