U.S. swimmer Gunnar Bentz tells his story of Rio gas station incident
KXAN ^ | August 19, 2016 | NBC

On the way back to the Olympic Village, we pulled into a convenience store to use the restroom. There was no restroom inside, so we foolishly relieved ourselves on the backside of the building behind some bushes. There was a locked door out back and I did not witness anyone breaking it open. I am unsure why, but while we were in that area, Ryan pulled to the ground a framed metal advertisement that was loosely anchored to the brick wall. I then suggested to everyone that we needed to leave the area and we returned to the taxi.

The only thing I have ever seen is this video.

This video does not show the bathroom door being kicked in, but it does show a person going in the bathroom. Four coming out who look like they could be the swimmers, plus another who looks like a service station worker.

P.S. There is an annoying commercial at the beginning that cannot be skipped.

Thanks. I’ll have to watch later, I’m on my way out. It sounds interesting.

The local state university tells all of the students in its study abroad programs to obey the laws of the host country, especially the drug laws (which, contrary to common perception, are often much more severe than in the US). For the ordinary traveler abroad, there is no “get out of jail free” card if you break the law, and the US embassy/consulate can’t/won’t do anything except notify family.

I knew the whole thing was a scam, the moment Costas was given the job of misleading us.

Costas has always been anti-american, just like Brian Williams.

TMZ reporting of urine found on the floor of said bathroom

Sorry, TMZ. Can't be any urine on the floor of a non-existent restroom.

I don’t trust the swimmers, I don’t trust Rio security guards, I don’t trust MSM and I don’t trust the Brazilian Government.

Exactly. None of them are telling the whole truth. Ok, maybe the swimmers were being stupid drunks but as someone above said gas stations don't have two armed guards. Now we find out there isn't a restroom so it couldn't have been destroyed. The timeline reported was one minute from them going around the back to them coming back out so they didn't have time to do much destruction. Honest cops don't hold passports of anyone over something this insignificant. Smart cops don't hold passports of anyone who has tv cameras at the ready. Honest cops don't demand $11k ransoms. Something smells in Rio besides the water.

After this, many tourists will mark Brazil off the vacation lists. It’ll cost Rio much more than $11k.

Thanks again for the video. Not how I pictured it, but informative at least as far as it went.

Why did Gunnar Bentz and Jimmy Feigen have to pay the security guards for the alleged vandalism of Ryan Lochte? Collective guilt?

On this we agree.

By the time code, there wasn’t time to do much damage if any. Notice there are cabs and a limo there. It would be interesting to see if there were more than one mugging there in the past two weeks.

They spoke the “international language” to get the Olympics...they bribed them and hooked them up with hot bronzeadas... Gotta love Morenas, you could spend 20 years and never find a tan line and it would be time well spent - lol! And I am saying that after 20 years of marriage to her...

Well, honestly Brasil just isn’t safe for tourism right now, it wasn’t safe when I went. I had friends there and I was plain old lucky I expect. Even Brasilians here in the states were in shock that I went on my own a few times. I am sure my guardian angel will have words for me when we meet.

In this swimmer’s account, he says a customer walked up and offered to translate for the swimmers and the police.

There seems to be something amiss in the Olympic selection process. It shouldn’t hinge on $ and beautiful women. Congratulations on 20 years of marriage!
