Biden: We wrote Japan’s Constitution
Yomiuri Shimbun ^ | August 16, 2016 | Jiji Press

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden on Monday criticized Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s proposal to allow Japan to obtain nuclear weapons, stressing that Japan’s pacifist Constitution was written by the United States.

“Does he not understand we wrote Japan’s constitution to say they could not be a nuclear power?” Biden said in a speech he delivered in Scranton, Pa., for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

“Where was he when in school?” Biden asked. “Someone who lacks this judgment cannot be trusted,” he said. “He’s not qualified to know the [nuclear] codes,” the U.S. vice president said.

Trump has suggested that Japan and South Korea be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons to protect themselves without relying on the United States.

Open mouth, insert foot, repeat. The Japanese are not taking to this too kindly; this was a wonderful way to make the Japanese government lose face, especially since Biden is VP and Clinton, in the video, is bobbleheading behind him, making it appear she agrees. IDIOTS.

Is Biden using the “ROYAL WE”? Actually, General Douglas MacArthur a “REPUBLICAN” had the most to do with setting up Japan’s new government.

At least they didn’t plagiarize it, Joe.

Good point. However Biden has no problem helping Iran along with their nuclear program.

Joe is still living in 1945.

Hey Joe, you’ve cut our military to where they might need to protect themselves.

Largely drafted by US Army officers who happened to be lawyers - it's very uncool to diss the Japanese this way - they did incorporate much of the Meiji Constitution . . .

Watch for a nasty comment from the Japanese over this Biden faux pas. Freaking idiot

I remember my old college history professor telling the class that McArther wrote the Japanese Constitution. I guess he was right.

Actually, General Douglas MacArthur a “REPUBLICAN” had the most to do with setting up Japan’s new government.

Yes, but every administration since Truman has had the good sense not to come right out and say it, because to do so would cause the Japanese government to lose face, which has been important since they stopped being our WWII enemy and became our Cold War ally.

The last thing we need now is for the Abe government to turn against us; we need Japan and ROK as counterweights to China in the Far East.

So the Japanese Constitution is fixed, sacred, permanent, and inviolable. But ours is written on toilet paper and can be sh!t upon daily and discarded at whim?

Typical lib hypocrisy.

Only crazed Iranians, who want to send Israel into the sea, should be allowed to have nukes!

Japan needs us as a counterweight to the billion-and-a-half people across the Sea of Japan who hate them with the intensity of a million suns over what they quaintly called the “Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere”.

I guess Slow Joe hasn’t updated his knowledge of Asia since the 1945 status quo. With the behavior we see from NK and China, it’s fine with me if Japan has nukes and a much stronger military.

The US can’t be everywhere and be a deterrent to every possible bad outcome in the world.

No, the Japanese are too much into haragei, meaning sending messages without actually saying them, for that. Expect some passive-aggressive act of non-cooperation some time between now and next January; my guess would be something to do with Takeshima or the Senkakus, the disputed islands in the South China Sea (I know those are the Japanese names, I'm too busy in sneaking off of work for two minutes to try to get the Sino/Korean equivalents).

Let me get this straight. Joe goes to Japan and tells them they cannot have nukes when Japan wants them? Pffft talk about slapping the face of your host.
