Joseph Goebbels’ 105-year-old secretary: ‘No one believes me now, but I knew nothing’
The Guardian ^ | 8/15/2016 | Kate Connelly

Posted on 08/16/2016 7:43:33 AM PDT by Borges

It was rare for us to see him in the mornings,” says Brunhilde Pomsel, her eyes closed and chin in her hand as she recalls her former boss. “He’d walk up the steps from his little palace near the Brandenburg Gate, on to which his huge propaganda ministry was attached. He’d trip up the steps like a little duke, through his library into his beautiful office on Unter den Linden.”

She smiles at the image, noting how elegant the furniture was, the carefree atmosphere where she sat in an ante-chamber off Joseph Goebbels’ office with five other secretaries, how his nails were always neatly manicured.

“We always knew once he had arrived, but we didn’t normally see him until he left his office, coming through a door that led directly into our room, so we could ask him any questions we had, or let him know who had called. Sometimes, his children came to visit and were so excited to visit Daddy at his work. They would come with the family’s lovely Airedale. They were very polite and would curtsy and shake our hands.”

No, it’s wrong to infer that.

In 1942, the Nazis still had ‘show camps’ where international inspectors were allowed to visit and see firsthand the conditions which were quite good.

Then as today, if a coworker is fired or a prominent personality is arrested, people tend to think such people had crossed a line somewhere. In her time, there was no sense of the magnitude of such firings or arrests. Social media did not exist to help inform her. Mass communications were nonexistent which provided fertile ground from which to launch large propaganda campaigns. She was in the dark.

My Godmother was originally from Serbia and settled immediately after the war in Leipzig, Germany. She spoke and wrote five languages fluently. She was summoned to Berlin to perform language work for Field Marshal Zhukov. She knew it was a death sentence so she arranged an escape buried in coal cars to the allied west side.

It was a death sentence because they would kill her to ensure there were no witnesses.

This lady was allowed to live because she had seen nothing that would leave her as a witness.

I don’t know about you guys but I see now how a people were taught to hate another race they would try to eliminate them by burning them in ovens. I feel it now, the BLM movement, the Syrian imports, colleges making mandatory “Social Justice” classes, the demonization of white middle America, and finally, the overwhelming desire to disarm us. I believe our generation will die by hand of the Government, anyone think I’m wrong?

She knew. What would you do? She can confess that she knew what was going on and then some radical would come and knock her in the head. Someone may do it anyway. She couldn’t oppose authority and she couldn’t tell the Russians everything. Death at their hands would have been a gift compared to what would have happened to her. How sad.

I am sure the German people knew something wasn’t quite right but didn’t know to what extent...or perhaps, half the population, didn’t care one way or the other, went along with it because they benefited from it?
Perhaps the Führer Obama’s Nazis.. . oops i mean Hitler’s Nazis fomented hatred for the “rich” as one of many excuses to hate a certain group of people?

Stalin started out as a Secretary for the Bolsheviks

Stalin clearly started out as a lot more than a secretary. For instance he masterminded a massive bank robbery that funded the early Bolsheviks.

I highly recommend this book. It is extremely well researched and fascinating. I had always assumed that Stalin got where he was solely by ruthlessness. But he clearly was an extremely talented and intelligent youth and probably read more books than most of us here, though obviously this all turned in the wrong direction.

Most people in the world are followers. Only a few are leaders.

It's easy to sit here and say we'd never follow orders like the Nazis did had we been alive in Germany during WW2, or that we'd never own slaves if we happened to be a white landowner in Mississippi in 1843.

Fact is, most of us would be good Nazis and most of us would be slaveowners under different circumstances.

Given human nature, it's pretty amazing that the United States of America has survived all these 200+ years in the current form. I don't think many other nations can boast of such stable government over such a long period of time without a major revolution. It even survived the War Between the States. But I fear our time as a Republic is running out unless we elect leaders that will put us back on track.

That's true. But the other Bolsheviks wondered why Stalin settled for such a "lowly" position, as Secretary. Little did they know at the time.

You think this cog had an active part in the Final solution.

That is quite a leap.

“Try telling the majority of man on the street americans about clinton corruption and sadistic moslem murderers and they walk away unfazed. Its called normalcy bias.”

This is a little different. She is actually saying she didn’t notice all the murdering taking place in Germany. She didn’t notice entire neighborhoods uprooted. She didn’t know about her boss’s orders. Impossible. She most certainly knew and was unfazed.

As little girls, Brunhilde was always our favorite name to call others whenever we were trying to depict them as "ugly." LOL.

If you live down wind from a camp, you knew it.

Which is why the major extermination facilities were all in Poland, not in Germany.

Iceland.

That is the only country with an older stable government.

And I am not even sure it is so much a country as an extended family. The population is only about a third of a million.

Only a handful of Nazi war criminals were executed. Most served fairly minimal prison terms.

No, being a clerk has absolutely nothing to do with it. Think before you snort.

Explain to me how a typist is a war criminal. And how after spending five years in a Russian camp doesn’t absolve her of her “crimes.”

She is an old woman. She did her time. How many times do you think she was raped in those camps?

Leave her be.
