Black Lives Matter Is Pushing Our Cities Back to the Brink
National Review ^ | August 15, 2016 | David French

Posted on 08/16/2016 5:57:13 AM PDT by reaganaut1

What happens when a city combines body cameras, a “model” law requiring independent investigations of police shootings, and a police chief so committed to reforming the way cops interact with the black community that he’s profiled on public radio’s immensely popular program This American Life? What happens in that same city when a black cop shoots an armed black suspect toting a stolen gun — a gun the suspect reportedly refused to put on the ground despite repeated commands? Do the legal reforms increase community trust? Or does the city erupt in riots and violence?

If you chose “riots and violence,” you’re correct. That’s exactly what happened in Milwaukee this weekend in response to the police shooting of Sylville Smith. Police pulled Smith over on Saturday afternoon, he fled from the scene, and police gave chase. Smith was carrying a stolen handgun. An officer with six years’ experience caught Smith, reportedly ordered him to drop the gun, and opened fire when Smith failed to comply, shooting him the in the chest and arm. Smith died.

According to police, the shooting was caught on camera. (The footage has not yet been released.) But rather than wait for the evidence or for any semblance of an investigation, hundreds of Milwaukee residents rioted, burning police cars, looting stores, and attacking police. Indeed, to listen to some of the protesters and political leaders, the shooting was merely the excuse for the riot, not the justification. Here’s one protester telling reporters that riots are happening because “rich people, they got all this money, and they not . . . trying to give us none.”

I found the biggest and craziest virtue signalers are in the boonies of the Red States. My wife and I were looking in small towns near my farm and dealt with a nice realtor lady. So my wife Facebook friends her and just lately she came up to me and said so and so is insane and I imagine all the respectable people in that small town are on board that crazy train.

With the current war raging between police and violent citizens, it is obvious that the only solution is a multi-national force of peacekeepers.

Sorry, I’m absolutely disinterested in any thing David French has to say about any thing.

Do you notice that none of the black leaders, the white social justice warriors, and the deal leader in the white hut, never talk about the root cause?

Ever. They are not intent on solving it - just chaos, NWO and so-called equity.

Without applying unapologetic, brutal, deadly force against such lawlessness, or the credible threat of it, we are at the mercy of such anarchy.

French betrayed his headiness and lack of roll up sleeves solution orientation. You know. A faux conservative.

BLM is nothing more than the domestic terrorist arm of ISIS.
The Won created both...on purpose.
IF society would just purge itself of this feral vermin, imagine how much better society would become. Just sayin’.

Do they really believe that Black Lives will exist on this continent 90 days after the Rule of Law is lost?

San Diego’s Chief of Police has done an awesome job of introducing body cameras. Started with a small group .. to see if the result would benefit not only the policeman doing his job, but the actual encounter with the public.

So far, the cameras have done their job. The film is reviewed by several Police Commanders and is proving something important. We no longer have a slew of complaints about how a Policeman interacted with the public; now they know they’re on film.

One of the latest incidents proved that a man with a semi-automatic weapon did actually turn and point the weapon at the officer. He had 23 bullets ready to fire - conclusion; the officer was well within his rights to shoot the person before he could shoot the officer.

That goes to the heart of the problem here.

In this country you have different groups of people inhabiting any given jurisdiction (city, state, nation) whose upbringings, cultures and moral codes (to the extent they have any) are so incompatible that they have no business living together.

The real dilemma is:

What do you do with people who are so utterly useless and dysfunctional that they can't meet even the most basic, rudimentary standards of any civilized society in human history?

This is actually an illusory fight. Let’s change the axiom.

The left like to believe that the police are public *controllers*. That with enough guns and equipment, the police can keep the public in check. The left is very, very wrong about this.

The truth is that the uniformed police are a convenience to the public, and little more. But how can this be?

A different axiom is that the public itself is the police. It hires the uniformed police to jobs that are too time consuming, specialized, and persistent for the public to want to do them.

A 24/7 day/night watch. Gatherers of evidence for the courts. Dogged pursuers of those the courts demand. Coordinators of emergency services. And finally traffic and crowd control.

And because we do not want the police to run roughshod over us, we create strict rules and protocols for them to follow.

Importantly very importantly, many of these rules DO NOT apply to armed citizens.

So, can armed citizens stop a riot? You bet they can.

A great example is from the Rodney King riots. The first night, the rioters invaded a Korean neighborhood. By the next night, every rooftop there had an armed Korean on it, and there were many more at street level. So any rioter who dared enter the area would have been a dead rioter.

The rioters knew this as well, so steered clear of that neighborhood.

And this is how it will work out elsewhere. Which made the call for the rioters to go to “the suburbs” to attack white people, so hilarious.

The typical suburb probably has equivalent small arms and ammunition to an infantry platoon. Not counting any police at all.

Forgive me, I know the IQ word is said a lot on FR, but throughout my life so far I have came across people who were born with that condition, and there were plenty who were kind and hard-working, just not really smart, they are human beings, and should not be looked down upon by anyone, and not because of these idiots who burn down their own neighborhoods.

- Just saying, no offense.

Most of what David French is saying is true, however, it's just the tip of the iceberg. He tries to frame the BlackLivesMatter problem in terms of economics, resentment of the rich by the poor, and social decay. All true, but it misses the point. What BLM is really about is a Black Racialist movement that hates and aims to brutalize and kill white people (and perhaps all non-blacks while they're at it). Everything else is secondary.

The reason David French and most other NRO writers can't and won't admit this is that they are politically correct Republicans - recall that French was recruited by Bill Kristol to lead the NeverTrump candidacy. They need to perpetuate the myth that these problems would go away if only we'd elect establishment Republicans like Mitt Romney or Jeb Bush.

Frankly grabbing excuses out of hats for why these people “choose” to do what they do is a fruitless endeavor. THEY are choosing behavior they KNOW is wrong...period.

Throwing monies away into the educational system has been done for years, and look where we are today. Most of this violence is simply a culture which not only teaches it from one generation to another.....but accepts the behavior as the norm....in their homes and on the streets.

....1919 Race riots....

..As long as they vote Demorat this will not end...

My farm in the boonies looked pretty good. But it is just a half a day’s drive from Boston or NYC.

OTOH, where I live now, on an island in Alaska...

Even though we’re “only” a couple of hours away from Austin, I console myself with the thought that the zombies have a lot of neighbors to go through before they get to us, and surely they will be whittled down to a manageable number by then.

No offense taken.

I didn’t mean to imply that everyone with a low IQ was prone to rioting. But for those who are, I think it is a factor. It’s a factor that contributes to poverty, also.

I, too, know plenty of people with low IQs who are kind, decent, hard-working, and loving people. I definitely don’t look down on them!

Thanks for adding to the discussion. Best FReegards.
