If Msgr. Swetland is correct, and it is Church teaching that all Catholics must accept that Islam is a religion of peace, then the Catholic hierarchy will have demonstrated that it does not have the authority or reliability in discerning and transmitting the truth that it claims to have; Papal claims to speak in the name of Christ will be eviscerated; and the Catholic Church as a whole exposed as a fraud.

That should be “In matters of CATHOLIC faith and morals, the bishops speak ...” Argument shot down.

There are many disturbing parallels between Catholicism and Islam’s corrupt coercive authoritarianism.
1. Both religions authorities tolerate pedastry (adult male on male child sex).
We all know by now that the Vatican lied about and gave shelter to THOUSANDS of homosexual pedophile priests for decades.
Little has changed. The Vatican recently REFUSED to require Bishops to report incidents of priest on child sexual abuse to authorities.
(In the USA public and private organizations, schools, scouts and day care are required to do so by law)

2. Both religions have been in bed together since Islam’s beginning. Early popes and its Augustine order encouraged the creation Islamic armies to use against enemies opposed to Catholic conquest.
To this very day the Vatican continues to curry favor with Muslims diplomaticly and spiritually, refusing to state clearly what victims of Muslim violence know only too well.
Islam represents an existential threat to non-Muslims around the world.
The Pope has on numerous occasions misled by repeating the lie that Islam worships the same god as Christianity and Judaism. Islam’s god is based on an earlier era moon god.

3. Both Islam and Catholicism have mastered the art of deception.
Both lie for the sake of self-interest.
Both steal and a mass wealth off the backs of victims.
Catholic church has been convicted of hiding and laundering Italian mafia MILLIONS of euros.
Catholic church obfuscated investigation and disclosure of it holding MILLIONS of euros worth of Holocaust victims art, money, jewelry and property.
4. Both religions have a horific history of inficting subjugation, cruel punishment and death on their victims.
You can be killed for distributing a bible in some Islamic countries.
Catholics in European countries were given harsh punishment for possession and use of the bible.
Look at the fate of William Tyndale in 1536 C.E.: William Tyndale was burned at the stake for translating the Bible into English. The Church forbid owning or reading the Bible to control and restrict the teachings and to enhance their own power and importance.
Islam is No doubt an Awful blood thirsty religious cult with a body count in the Hundreds of Millions (200 million Indian Hindus slaughters during Islamic conquest)
However, Catholicism has done Christ’s ministry much long term harm by not acting strictly according to What Would Jesus Do.

Just whom did you assume I was referring to when I stated "The Church"? Not too many fundies/evangels refer to themselves as such. The biggest one that comes to mind is the one in question in this article.

Actually, Popes Leo XIII and Pius XI wrote encyclicals that made it clear that Islam is a darkness. It is a false religion that denies Jesus Christ.
I’m surprised this heresy came out of the Archdiocese of Kansas City, Kansas, where Archbishop Naumann has acted in the past as one of the better bishops out there (he ordered that Kathleen Sebelius not be admitted to holy communion, for example).
If the Catholic Church can no longer distinguish between the Works of God and the works of the devil, they should get out of the religion business and join the circus as a traveling freak show.
In the final analysis, the Pope is only a man. A good Pope is a righteous man. A mediocre Pope is a weak man. A poor Pope tries to lead the church astray, but generally fails.
