If Msgr. Swetland is correct, and it is Church teaching that all Catholics must accept that Islam is a religion of peace, then the Catholic hierarchy will have demonstrated that it does not have the authority or reliability in discerning and transmitting the truth that it claims to have; Papal claims to speak in the name of Christ will be eviscerated; and the Catholic Church as a whole exposed as a fraud.

On the other hand, Catholicism is not Islam. So the effort by some to make Catholicism (or Christianity) into Islam is extremely misguided.

Islam is diametrically opposed to Christianity. Muslims deny Jesus is the Christ, the divine Son of God.

All arguments on this subject are a distraction except for one: Islam believes the Jesus Christ is not God. They believe that anyone who says that he is God is a blasphemer.
When debating Islam, stick to that one point and don’t let it go. Don’t let it become an “agree to disagree” thing. Just keep hammering them with “Is Jesus Christ God?”
When they finally blurt out “NO!”, then you know that we do not worship the same God. The Roman Church should know that.

Heresy was a capital crime according to the state. The Church just handled the fact-finding part of the trial, not the sentence.
Catholic leadership from the Vatican on down seems to have gone berserk.
They claim they are the ONLY true church, but allows almost EVERY other "religion" to be acceptable / accepted ... with no effort to convert those allowed "religions"
