Fox Searchlight, Nate Parker Confront Old Sex Case That Could Tarnish ‘The Birth Of A Nation’

Since it swept the Audience Award and Grand Jury Prizes and sold in a stunning $17.5 million worldwide rights deal to Fox Searchlight at January’s Sundance Film Festival, Nate Parker’s The Birth of a Nation has been considered a front-runner film in the Oscar race.

A brewing controversy threatens to challenge the trajectory of that inspiring narrative. Memories of 17-year-old rape charges waged against both Parker and Jean McGianni Celestin (who shares co-story credit with Parker) while they were roommates at Penn State in 1999 left Fox Searchlight in full crisis mode these past weeks, scrambling to figure out how best to protect its sizable investment and Oscar chances by getting in front of a disclosure that is bubbling up in the mainstream press. The transcripts of the trial are public record and readily available, as Deadline discovered — the clerk there offered that numerous inquiries have been made recently — and the play-by-play is a sordid he-said-she-said affair that pitted a female student against Parker and Celestin. She claimed both men had sex with her after she had passed out in their room following a night of drinking. They claimed the encounter was consensual. Traumatized, she subsequently dropped out of college, and attempted suicide, per court documents. Parker, who had an earlier mutually willing sexual encounter with the student, was acquitted of the charges. Celestin initially was convicted, but that was overturned on appeal and his case was not retried.

Ironic. The original W. D. Griffith BOAN also involved an attempted rape by a newly freed slave.

“I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” Biden said. “I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”

Parker, not so much.

Nate Parker, our very own national sore-picker of the month, gets outed regarding the glaringly-obvious leaky abscess in his own personal history: Hey Mr. Pot, I ‘d like you to meet Monsieur Kettle.

Forget the fact in the middle of a summer of racial tension Hollywood decides to release a movie showing blacks mass murdering white men, women, and children.

That should be the real outrage.

Imagine if this were a film about the ‘heroes’ going on a rampage killing blacks and they are made out to be noble in any way shape or form. It’d be widely condemned and never see the light of day.

Hollywood gave the Oscar to the pedophile rapist Roman Polanski, so this is small potatoes.

MSM headline calls rape case “old.”

Meanwhile the movie has go back to Nat Turner to find examples of racism.

Nat Turner was justified what he did. He’s an American hero.

The original film was very prophetic:

Stoneman and his protégé Silas Lynch, a mulatto exhibiting psychopathic characteristics,[17] travel to South Carolina to observe the implementation of Reconstruction policies firsthand. Black occupation soldiers are seen parading through the streets and pushing white residents aside on the sidewalks. During the election, in which Lynch is elected lieutenant governor, whites are seen being prevented from voting while blacks are observed stuffing the ballot boxes. The newly elected, mostly black members of the South Carolina legislature are shown at their desks displaying inappropriate behavior, such as one member taking off his shoe and putting his feet up on his desk, and others drinking liquor and feasting on stereotypically African American fare such as fried chicken. The legislature passes laws requiring white civilians to salute black soldiers..................

But I will add this speaks more to the nature of man than it does to race.

The Birth of a Nation began filming in 1914 and pioneered such camera techniques as the use of panoramic long shots, the iris effects, still-shots, night photography..........

Stop and pause on the words “night photography” What is the one night shot we all remember? If you are going to depict the clan at night you need a light source. How about burning a cross for dramatic effect? Can’t just have a weeny roast.

It was this film that taught the clan to burn crosses. Burning crosses by the klan was unknown prior to this film.

Films are propaganda, both the old one and this new one.

The purpose of the film is to promote violence against white people nationally.

It also serves the useful political purpose of maintaining black victim mentality, this despite them controlling the power in this country (POTUS, AG, etc.).

No coincidence it is being released in October right before the election.

No telling how many whites will be robbed and murdered because of this film.

When I was in the Ivory Coast many years ago, as we traveled though various villages, he would explain to me that those villagers used to be his ancestors slaves..........

>>>Who brought slaves over here?<<<

The Dutch, English and Portuguese after purchasing the Black Slaves from other Black Tribesmen who enslaved them first.

At least that was what I was told until Alex Haley wrote Roots. Levar Burton wasn’t a Starfleet Engineer yet either.
