LIVE THREAD: Ryan vs Nehlen Wisconsin 1st Congressional District Primary 8/09/2016
WisPolitics.com ^

Posted on 08/09/2016 9:50:32 AM PDT by nikos1121

1st CD, Republican: Incumbent Paul Ryan, of Janesville, and Paul Nehlen, of Williams Bay.

I absolutely have nothing on this election, so I thought I'd start a thread, and we can add to it as information comes in. Some polls have Ryan way ahead, and a few find it less certain. On the other hand, wasn't this the climate before the Cantor election? He was sitting fat dumb and happy with a big lead in the polls?

If I were a betting man, I'd have to put my money on Ryan and by all counts, he's a very popular guy up there, but then again, so is Obama.

And why would Dems cross over for the one who is weaker?
Is it not possible they cross over because they actually like one of them?

My experience with cross overs in 90% is FOR someone and not against someone. In ‘92 anti-corruption Republicans crossed over to vote for the weaker Carole Mosely-Braun because Republican House MINORITY Leader Michels told us to vote for his Democrat pal Al Dixon.

In ‘98 anti-Corruption Democrats crossed over to vote for anti-Corruption Republican Fitzgerald and they were more than the Pro-Corruption Republicans who crossed over to vote against pro-life Democrat Proshard.

Pro-lifers abandoned pro-life Fitzgerald to vote for Dem Proshard. But pro-lifers have such a poor turnout that it didn’t help him at all and he lost.

Didn’t many Democrats cross over to vote for Trump because they liked Trump? and not because he was the weaker candidate?

Ryan will look like little Eddie Munster being scolded by his mother Lily after he loses the primary.

I saw a Dem newsletter online—I didn’t save the link—that urged Dems to vote against Ryan. Iirc, it’s a PR bonanza if a party loses its Speaker—leads to the narrative that the party is unpopular with its base and vulnerable in Nov. There was also the idea that Nehlen could be defeated in the general more easily than Ryan.

Party Boys... They are in the Club or have a vested financial interest in their boy winning.

Plus, Ryan’s district is over 90% white and nearly 60% white-collar...i.e these folks have jobs. And busy suburban lives. They are Republicans but don’t have time to delve into the nuances of political issues and intrigue. Ryan is a very personable guy, just the kind of neighbor they’d love to have. He is a mirror of his constituency, he is one of them. So they re-elect Paul Ryan just like they’ve been doing since 1998.

Immediately thereafter, Cantor accepted a position as vice chairman of investment bank Moelis & Company at a compensation of $3.4 million.[3] As the US House majority leader, Cantor earned an annual salary of $193,400.

Seems like he’s doing well.

Cantor was a victim of redistricting in my view. That and he was an arrogant putz.

As I recall there was a dust up at the VA state GOP convention that Cantor was involved in. The folks in VA were way more engaged than these sheep in Wisconsin. Notice we have not had one peep out of these Wisconsin “conservatives” as Ryan advances his progressive and anti-American globalist agenda. Even when Ryan tried to cut vet pay a couple years back. Not a word against that betrayal of our vets.

I no longer live in Ryan’s district but still own property in Franklin WI (SE Milwaukee County). I have never been a Ryan backer. Even before becoming SOH he was a squishy rino. I worked the Gov Walker campaigns and the recall. I don’t know what if any influence Ryan had on any of those elections. I didn’t see it. Ryan gave Obama everything he wanted...and more according to the President. Ryan supports TPP, H1B’s, amnesty. I personally think he is bad for Wisconsin and terrible for the Country.

Yes, that’s why people spend millions to win an office that pays thousands.

People such as my family gave many hundreds of dollars to Walker. Walker won in large part to conservatives outside of Wisconsin helping him on both occasions.

As for Paul Ryan, there’s not a bit of useful “wonk” in that wanker. He gives 0 a budget that overlaps well into the next president’s first year at rates above what 0 asked to have. This was his crowning, and first, “achievement.” Next, he wants to legalize illegals and do everything else bad for the country.

What worthwhile things has Ryan done, to make him “respectable?” Where is your head stuck?

For once, I’m in favor of the democrats’ strategy.

The only satisfaction is that if Ryan wins, he’ll likely be Minority Speaker before long.

So you're in favor of handicapping Trump before he starts? You on the right website?

Well considering most of the GOP Congress doesn’t want Trump, what difference does it make?

“What difference does it make?” Where have I heard that statement before? Weird seeing conservatives on FR uttering that phrase.

He’ll do better with rinos than rats. Senate races are down ticket too, and Hairy Reid won’t allow any of Trump’s SCOTUS picks a vote ...

Has Sarah Palin, or anyone come out for Nehlen?

Not a slam, but the fact that you don't know this is very telling.

Where do you see a single FR person supporting Ryan?! I have never seen one, not one.

Sideshow Bob informed me that Ryan votes his interest 90% of the time, so he wants to keep him. Blithely ignorant of the fact the order 10% of the time is devastating to the Republic.
