No confusion here, you’rethe one bringing in extraneous things. Pence wasn’t making a religious statement. He was talking about overturning Roe v Wade. That’s it. We have had an out of control supreme court for too many years. That’s part of Trump’s platform. It’s a winning issue.

Again, when you consign this to being a religious issue, you show your leftist ideology. You are no conservative. You are a traitor to humanity.

He didn’t say it. Only the title said it, and that was written by the news outlet

Its not the position. Its the tactic.

I think it would be more accurate to say I was reacting to the fact that Pence appeared to be making eliminating RvW a centerpiece of his campaign message. Sure, that’s always been the goal of the pro life position, but Trump hasn’t specifically articulated that goal in any of his campaign speeches with regard to SC Justice selection. Perhaps Trump wanted Pence to do it for him; perhaps not.

But it’s noteworthy that RvW has so seeped into and degraded our culture that it’s now taken for granted across the political spectrum that no Presidential candidate can oppose it and win. Trump may be strong enough to put that notion to rest.

I wish I could have said this in that way. Absolutely correct, this thread is a real head-scratcher with some sensible posts like this one.

-----------

Well, I guess this thread proves that FR has been taken over by a bunch of left-wing, foul-mouthed concern trolls. I didn’t support Trump in the primaries, but will now vote for him since he chose Pence as his running mate.

The hilarious thing about all the hand-winging is that it is about as un-Trumplike as you can get. It sounds like the Romney-Lindsay-McCain accommodationist wing that were the nominees in 08 and 12.

Pence didn’t make an Akin comment about rape and conception. Roe v. Wade is an extremist position, as is the gay marriage ruling last summer. It’s 5 unelected dictators making law out of nothing and forcing it on us. It’s a softball that Trump and Pence can turn into a winning issue and hit out of the park. It highlights the importance of states deciding rather than five black-robed thugs. Most polls indicate broad support for overturning Roe v Wade, and this includes some abortion supporters.

So, I don’t know where all of you came from, but this shows me you’re not Trump supporters, nor do you have an ounce of understanding of his communication style. I am glad Trump brought an end to the pandering. It’s too bad so many of you fools didn’t get the memo.

How many Presidential elections did John Brown win?

I’ll bet this was part of a plan to say. They do have some strategy.

I’m not sure if Murdock-Akin’s statements even compare.

Even at that, if the Democrats say something; the party often comes to their support.

While when M-A said these things, they ended up taking heat for it.

What is your point? How many elections did Jesus win? If you don’t discuss a problem, it gets ignored and nothing will change. This isn’t about winning Presidential elections.

"You fool!!! Why don’t you and your idiot friends not understand that he HAS NOT BEEN ELECTED YET!!! Get it through your thick skulls that anything he might say he would do doesn’t mean squat if he’s not elected in the first damn place. I always though that most FReepers were pretty smart but tonight has been a real game changer."

Wow, what a way to win friends and influence people!   Do you think your vile, ignorent personal attacks will somehow convince people that you are right?  Those candy-ass, wishy-washy, pansy views you are espousing take the same fear-filled, trepidatious approach that Mitt Romney and John McCain took.   That really helped them a lot, didn't it?   (Which side are you really working for?)

It is so refreshing to see candidates who say what they mean, and mean what they say, and don't cower in the corner like quivering quislings, and don't hide behind emtpy fog-talk, and don't just speak phony b.s. like Hillary and Barack, and don't go around pretending they are something they are not.   Those milquetoasts who can't handle that should get a backbone, grow a pair, and stand tall on their true beliefs for a change, and not go prancing about and tippy-toeing fruitily around their true beliefs, pretending that they are really just like the evil demonicrats.

Thank God for courageous men like Trump & Pence.

"Correct...Trump said I will appoint pro-life Judges. He never said I will overturn Roe Vs. Wade. Yuge difference."

Roe v. Wade was a Supreme Court decision.   Trump said he was going to work to change Roe v. Wade.   How else do you change a Supreme Court decision without somehow fundamentally overturning it?

For example, the Dred Scott decision was a bad Supreme Court decision, and it had to be changed too.   There were several tools used to change (overturn) that decision (including a Civil War, a "Civil Rights Act", and the 14th Amendment to the Constitution).   Republicans back then had the courage of their convictions, and the fortitude to openly express their views in an honest and forthright manner, and not try to hide them under a bushel, and pretend they were something which they were not.

Um, most of the population, especially millennials, have moved more to a pro life stance in recent years.... it won’t hurt that’s for sure....

It’s not nearly as polarizing as BUILD A WALL.
But that didn’t hurt Trump.

Give Trump some credit. I’ve seen him make a lot of people rethink their positions on issues.

I may not agree with him on everything, but you’ve got to hand that to him. He’s one persuasive chap.

We’ve needed a fighter to carry the prolife torch for awhile. Don’t discourage him.

It sounds to me like a reasonable question to be expected from voters in the area where Pence was campaigning (strong Cruz area according to the press). Of course, it’s always possible that it was a “setup” by the Left, “Never Trumpers” or from some “Cruz or Lose” aficionados.

Does it really matter who put forth the question? The point is that both Pence and Trump need to expect these types of “loaded” questions and to have coherent and effective methods of replying to them. Pence could have crafted a more effective reply.

Specifically referring to “Roe vs. Wade” was unnecessary and a “dog whistle” to feminists and many moderate, independent women. We won’t persuade the hard core feminists; but, independent women are persuadable and we need every vote we can get. Pence could have made the same point without going to the confrontational verbiage.

That said, he spoke earnestly and what’s done is done; hope he learns and grows from the experience.

To: Randy Larsen; All

I did not mean to upset you. The truth is we have to defeat this leftist culture if we are to get this country back on track.

Most of all, we have to quit giving this leftist culture all this power over us, that they have established over many decades through many ways like, news media, entertainment industry, education, etc. It’s time we learn to ignore them because of their failed ideology and it is a failed ideology in so many ways that conservatives here understand.

You will also have to understand, only about 20% of Americans identify themselves with this failed ideology. They are a small minority but they control much of the influences (see paragraph above) in this country to make themselves look like a bigger presence than they really are. This is right out of the Alinksy’s “Rules for Radicals” playbook to make themselves look like a bigger movement that what it really is.

The great thing is we’ve been blessed with a leader like Trump that understands who the opposition really is and is smashing right through their evil playbook. He is taking them head on and he needs all of our support in order to defeat them.

I hope you come to understand, it’s a brand new day and a brand new fight. Together, if we all stand up to them, we can defeat the evil that has tried to take our country down. Donald Trump is showing us the way so please, do not get discouraged.

Peace,

CGato

If the candidate says “I will nominate pro-life judges who interpret the constitution”, as Trump has been saying all along, the media has not attacked him for saying that. Because he is leaving it up to the appointed judiciary to render a ruling on Roe Vs Wade.

OTOH if Trump had said “I will overturn Roe Vs, Wade” it would be attacked by media saying “Trump will interfere with the judiciary”.

I know the difference is hard for your to fathom. But take my word for it, there is a YUGE difference.
