There is a term called "air-gap" which, although not completely foolproof, does greatly reduce your susceptibility to being hacked. In short, important stuff is on computers that are not connected to other computers, ever. No email, no USBs ... nuttin honey!

However, since this is email that was hacked, there would not have been a way to lock this near completely, unless they invoked some heavy duty IRM (Information Rights Management). Even then, someone can snap a picture of their screen with a camera. IRM is a major pain in the backside to users however, because it seriously limits the ability to collaborate.

What was that old saying about willingness to sacrifice freedom for security ... you end up with neither ... well ... welcome to the internet.

No.it is not necessarily moles. Most likely, the email server that the DNC was/is using for their mail is a Microsoft Exchange server. Many organizations use exchange because it is somewhat easy to administer if you don’t have more than a few brain cells bouncing around in your head.it is easy to set up email for a bunch of folks, and doesn’t require much wffort to set up - unless you are actually serious about security. If you are, then you need to be fmore than a monkry who can mash a few buttons to get email working. If you want securty, you need a professional who hopefully understands more than the basics.

Exchange stores all of its mail for its users in a big database. IM figuring most likely that from the looks of the way thigs have been distributed, that someone broke into the server and hoovered up the db. This gives you access to everything, individual emails, attchments, the whole ball o wax.

Since the databse is already in a structured format, extracting everything so that it becomes searchable on on a database the way wikileaks is, is pretty straightforward.

I’d throw in some comments about how silly it is to be running a micrsoft server with exposed ports on the Internet, but I dont want to get involved in a holy war.

Bottom line: a mole would be useful but not necessary.

I’m sure the NSA, CIA, OR FBI (well, maybe not the FBI), has any number of ways that they know of to ger into a microsoft exchange server. Of course, they won’t tell Microsoft about them because if Microsoft were to be informed, and they released a patch to fix those holes, then the NSIA/CIA could not snoop into the servers of “evildoers” at will without warrants or other such bothersome niceties.

Of course, contrary to what the fine fellows at the NSA/CIA, and even the useless drones at the FBI would have you believe, America isn’t the sole repository of smart people on the planet. So, other organizations without such pure motives are sometimes able to make use of these vulnerabilities discovered by folks being paid by the American taxpayerwhonfelt that their ability to read our email outweighs the securty of anyone who is NOT a part of the government leviathan.

Isn’t it wonderful that your government thinks so little of your security that they will publicly admit it, and you can’t do a damned thing about it?

I think their IT guy was a diversity candidate, and not necessarily the sharpest IT guru ... Just speculation

VM is stored digitally. For a org that size they probably have a VoIP phone system, possibly tied in with their email and computer system.

I wonder who it could be? (as panic sets in as the DNC realizes they have a mole!)

I hope they never find out.

That person's life isn't going to worth toilet paper.

I’ve been thinking that the release of these voice mails is the message - not the actual content.

That is exactly what I’m saying.

WikiLeaks is showing them one of their hole cards, and it was an Ace.

The Dems have no choice but to stay in the game. They can’t fold. All they can even attempt is to raise the stakes and hope WikiLeaks is bluffing.

“Putin and the Russians detest people like Obama and Hitlery who betray their own country. Putin would much rather deal with Trump because Trump will bring stability and strength. And Putin wants to team up with Trump to defeat ISIS.”

Do you remember when Obama was talking to the Russian official on the hot mic and said he’d have more flexibility after he was elected?

I think all our enemies have Hillary’s and the DNC emails/information.

If they have the goods, we might see some of it tomorrow. If they want to get the Dems totally off message and overshadow Hill’s speech, it would be then. That said, they might be holding any really devastating stuff for October.

It comes down to two things: do they have the goods and what is their motive? Is it blackmail, glory-seeking, a personal vendetta, or a matter of principle?
