FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 14, 2018  DOJ OIG RELEASES REPORT ON VARIOUS ACTIONS BY THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION AND DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE IN ADVANCE OF THE 2016 ELECTION   Department of Justice (DOJ) Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz announced today the release of a report examining various actions by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the DOJ in advance of the 2016 election in connection with the investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server (referred to by the FBI and DOJ as the "Midyear" investigation).  The DOJ Office of the Inspector General's (OIG) findings are summarized in detail in the report's Executive Summary, which is included below.  The scope of the OIG's review included:   •  Allegations that DOJ or FBI policies or procedures were not followed in connection with, or in  actions leading up to or related to, former FBI Director James Comey's public announcement on July 5, 2016, and his letters to Congress on October 28 and November 6, 2016, and that certain underlying investigative decisions were based on improper considerations (Chapters 3-11);  •  Allegations that DOJ and FBI employees improperly disclosed non-public information (Chapter 12, and as noted in our report, the OIG will separately report on related investigations as they are concluded, consistent with the Inspector General Act, other applicable statutes, and OIG policy);  •  Allegations that former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe should have been recused from  participating in certain investigative matters (Chapter 13);  •  Allegations that former Assistant Attorney General for the DOJ's Office of Legislative Affairs,  Peter Kadzik, improperly disclosed non-public information to the Clinton campaign and/or should have been recused from participating in certain Clinton-related matters (Chapter 14); and  •  Allegations that the timing of the FBI's release of certain Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)  documents on October 30 and November 1, 2016, and the use of a Twitter account to publicize the same, were influenced by improper considerations (Chapter 15).   During the course of the review, the OIG discovered text messages and instant messages between some FBI employees on the investigative team, conducted using FBI mobile devices and computers, that expressed statements of hostility toward then candidate Donald Trump and statements of support for Clinton.  We also identified messages that expressed opinions that were critical of the conduct and quality of the investigation.  We included in our review an assessment of these messages and actions by the FBI employees (Chapter 12, and as noted in our report, the OIG is preparing a separate report describing the OIG's efforts to recover text messages...

A Utah man who has been incarcerated in a Venezuelan jail since 2016 is set to be released, U.S. officials said Saturday. Joshua Holt, 26, has been jailed in Venezuela after he traveled to the South American country in the summer of 2016 to marry Thamara Candelo, whom he met on a website for Mormon singles. The two planned to return to the U.S. after getting married, but where jailed in El Hilcolde on what human rights groups said were largely trumped-up charges. Good news about the release of the American hostage from Venezuela. Should be landing in D.C. this...

[Full headline:] "If Sheriff Israel is the amazing leader he says he is, he will release videos of his deputies actions during Parkland shooting" Its imperative that Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel release video recordings of what his deputies did, and didnt do, outside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School while Nikolas Cruz was on a killing spree inside. First, Israel himself has said that the public needs to know this information. Hes right, and he should accommodate the people on whose behalf he and his deputies work. This is an extraordinary case in which his department bears a large share...

The Democratic rebuttal memo to the Republican House Intelligence Committee memo on alleged government surveillance abuses was released Saturday afternoon. House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., acknowledged its release at his appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference, at about 4 p.m. "It's just posted," he told American Conservative Union chairman Matt Schlapp, quipping that the committee website was probably already crashing due to high traffic. Democrats say their memo was written as a rebuttal to provide greater context to a Republican memo that was released earlier this month, which outlines abuses by the FBI and the Justice Department...

Former FBI Director James Comey is in deep trouble and he could have just hours left to breath. Thursday, the hammer of justice may finally come down on him and the alleged anti-Trump (and pro-Hillary Clinton) agents in the FBI. In a remarkably public clash of wills with the White House, the FBI declared Wednesday it has grave concerns about the release of a secret memo on the Russia election investigation that President Donald Trump wants released. The FBIs panicked public statement, its first on the issue, laid bare a Trump administration conflict that had previously played out mostly...

President Trump broke with top officials at the Justice Department and called for the release of a classified memo purported to list Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act abuses by the U.S. government, The Washington Post reported Saturday. Despite warnings from top officials at the agency, Trump reportedly told Attorney General Jeff Sessions through chief of staff John Kelly that he wants to see the memo released, believing that it will shed light on the special counsel investigation. Trump is inclined to have that released just because it will shed light, a senior administration official told the Post. Apparently all the rumors...

  • Border agents say acting status of agency chiefs has hampered enforcement efforts

The enthusiasm felt by Border Patrol agents following news of President Trumps strong stance on border and immigration enforcement is slowly dissipating as the reality sinks in that actual enforcement of stronger rules may not be changing much from the Obama years. Agents hoped to be able to return to the days where they could inspect the immigration status of suspicious individuals at transportation hubs, jails or even businesses not only as an immigration enforcement measure, but to prevent terrorism. According to some agents, there is a general feeling of a disconnect between what President Trump and Homeland Security...
