With protests predicted, businesses warned to batten down the hatches

With the Democratic National Convention and an attendant influx of protesters a week away, the city is suggesting businesses bring in loose planters, take down flags, and secure commercial dumpsters "to avoid misappropriation by demonstrators."

The city expects 35,000 to 50,000 protesters daily during the July 25-28 convention. Anticipated gathering spots include FDR Park, Marconi Plaza, Independence Mall, City Hall, and the Municipal Services Building.

Marches are planned down Broad Street and Market Street.

Simultaneously, Philadelphia is rolling out a literal multicolored carpet for visitors and delegates and hosting four days of live music along Broad Street. The Mural Arts project will debut a mile-long canvas on the Broad Street median.

The convention host committee, with an $80,000 grant from the Knight Foundation, will line Broad Street from Arch to Washington Streets with seven street-level pop-up spaces featuring musical performances and art displays from noon to 6 p.m. each day of the week.

At least four protests are planned down Broad Street during the same time. Organizers say artists and musicians will be instructed to halt when demonstrators come by.

Temperatures are going to be in the 90s all week. Will it keep protestors from being out there or will it cause tempers to flare? Nobody could possibly know.

Like mass shooters headed for a gun-free zone, BLM will riot where it’s safer.

Unless they don’t protest in Philly either, because they are out of gas, lost their mojo, demoralized, etc.

A win for Trump either way.

Maybe the heat will “induce” more farts at the Fart In!

I hope that somebody delivers an s-load of methamphetamine, PHP soaked marijuana, artificial marijuana “spice”, and really cheap cane whiskey to keep the protesters going.

Thanks to a large police presence, open carry, and Bikers for Trump, the protesters were unable to unleash the kind of chaos they had promised for Cleveland. Philadelphia will be a different story. The Philadelphia police are upset with the DNC because of the anti-police speakers that have been booked, and have released a public statement to that effect. Philadelphia doesn’t have open carry, and won’t have a Bikers for Trump type of group to keep the protesters in check. In addition, there is a new mayor, Jim Kenney, who is a Bill DeBlasio wanna-be. The protesters will be looking for the 15 minutes of fame that they didn’t get in Cleveland.

And while I don’t want anyone to get hurt ( well at least not the cops)

I hope the cops stay safely in the background and just let the protestors play.........

Are you kidding me? I want to see anarchy and I want the Democrats to be physically beating each other.

Whatever makes them look bad. Especially after there where no instances of violence at the RNC where Trump, who they say is a catalyst of violence, accepted the nomination.

Because in the law Philly is a “city of the first class” or some other such nonsense.

For some reason, Chicago ‘68 convention comes to mind.

Gotta stock up on some Reddenbacher’s.

Maybe we ought to leave them some “room to destroy!” Worked in Charm City for Mayor Rawlings Blake.

How appropriate in Philadelphia, home to the oldest zoo in the US

The Democrat party is extremely anti-police when law enforcement is enforcing the law against a potential Democrat voter, it’s a return to their 60s roots.
The Democrats want Federal government jurisdiction against all police and use that force to subjugate the American people.

The cops should call in sick en-masse with blue flu.
Who cares if BLM burns the Democrat convention and the whole city to the ground?
Any response by police/military would be “racist” according to our friends on the left.
Let it bleed and burn.
