“Some insist Garner was also doubling as a lookout and/or doorman for a drug operation.”

If he was, he sure distracted the sh!t out of the cops.

Erstwhile street entrepeneur Garner had been arrested 30 times, for crimes such as assault and theft. He was out on bail at the time of his death. He, like the LA purveyor of vintage entertainment media (CD’s!), Alton Sterling, was one of the curious fixtures of urban/ghetto street life, the sidewalk vulture, who hangs around outside of legitimate businesses, annoying customers, on the lookout for “action,” ie. opportunities for illegal enrichment. Do you think the bodega owner, trying to sell legal cigarettes, enjoyed having the hulking Garner greeting his customers as they came to his business? In a saner time, laws against loitering were appreciated as tools to control people up to no good.

So Castile was pulled over for a brake light infraction and Castile indeed had a CW permit? So passenger Reynolds was correct when she stated this on video?

Hmmm.

Mr. Castile was pulled over 49 times in 13 years. He was well known in the area by the cops for being stopped so much, and was referred to as being friendly and cooperative.

No, not just robbery, but, "Armed robbery". Big difference.

And if the LEO genuinely thought this was an "Armed robbery suspect" he should have initiated a felony traffic stop for the safety of everyone involved.

“Personally, living in a NYC neighborhood, I hate to see these guys peddling loosies. They attract drunks and homeless.”

And themselves get robbed quite often. This was why Sterling was carrying because he had probably been robbed for his illicit funds in the past.

Thanks, but I have to credit Rush for the kernel about the tax angle.

That guy freaking knows everything.

These people also stand in front of businesses and open doors for customers in a ‘polite’ way in order to solicite a tip.

Yesterday, as I was coming out of the Union Square Barnes & Noble, I had a joker in dreadlocks hand me a ‘poem’ he had written. Like a dope I took it! Then I looked at him and said ‘You want money, don’t you?” He went into his Homey the Clown act, using $10 dollar words involving grants and fundraising. I handed the poem back to him and walked on.

This happens all the time in urban areas. Everyone gets fed up with it.

I always like to know a scofflaw who has no driver’s license or insurance is friendly and cooperative. Makes me feel real warm when I find out they’ve run over a little child.

Kind of like those guys waiting outside the DC metro stations with a stack of free maps and wanting a 20 spot for their public service.

...."So, who is ultimately to blame for Mr. Garner's death?"....

I understand the case you are trying to make, but Mr. Garner is responsible for Mr. Garner's death. He was overweight, asthmatic, diabetic, and decided to fight the police. All he had to do was sick his wrists out and take the cuffs and do his arguing in court. He didn't die at the scene, but at the hospital from asthma. I'm sure the attack was from the arrest, but why get all upset at the scene?

Police are just a tool law enforcement uses to bring suspects under control. Fighting and resisting Police is always a futile thing. They won't just back off and say "Well this guy doesn't want to go with us, so lets just leave him alone". They will bring in 15 more officers if necessary to get the job done, but get it done, they will. People don't get shot just sitting in their vehicle saying yes sir and no sir.

The case for taxes on cigs is for legislators, not for the police. The police take oaths to enforce said laws.

Omg you are uninformed. Castile NEVER drove legally, and got caught driving without any license, reg, ins, literally SCORES of times, he racked up upwards of 70-80 total violations, misdemeanors and petty misdemeanors, and CHRONICALLY got caught driving with no license, time after time. That you’d assume based on this report that he had only one offense shows....oh never mind

Glad you pointed that out. Garner and Sterling were both chronic career thugs.

He died from a heart attack, not asthma. Otherwise everything you said was right on.

Not sure if you intended that sarcastically. Have you seen his actual record of violations? It’s a mile long, 70-80 misdemeanors & petty misdemeanors. NEVER drove legally.
