How does carpenter's helper, E-4, go to an urban combat specialist?

From the start the Dallas assignation of 5 cops was reported to be well planned and executed. Well stop right there! The two police shootings in St. Paul and Baton Rouge took place Tuesday and Wednesday. The Dallas murders took place Thursday. So this place of debris had 24 to 48 hours to plan the attack.

All this planning was done by an army first class trained in hammer management. And in twenty four hours.

How did he know and when did he known that the black terrorist group, BLM, was going to protest in Dallas and from whom? How did he know the location of the protest?

Then how did he gain access to the building to attack the officers?

How does a hammer expert go from nail driving to shooting cops at night. Ever try firing a rifle at night?

This was not a one man operation. This was planned for him, access to buildings given to him and rifle training to carry out this crime.

Every soldier attends Basic Combat Training which includes (or did in 1990 when my wife was a Drill SGT) 3 weeks of Basic Rifle Marksmanship. You must qualify to graduate BCT. Qualification involves Night Fire, very close targets with pretty low percentage required to pass and the main range qualification which has single and multiple pop-up targets from 75 to 350 meters, all of which are timed.

Iraq and Afghanistan have seen many MOSs like ADA, MI, etc used as Convoy Security and Infantry.

In the end, we're all Grunts.

He was competent with his former service weapon. That is not surprising at all. He transitioned from strong to weak side quite well, used cover correctly and pushed up on his targets aggressively to gain the advantage with aggressive action.

In short, he was at war and his opponents were in shock. He wins. It’s not complicated.

Lesson to take away from this? A gun fight is similar to a knife fight at distance. Being in good physical shape is freakin vital. The cops looked like slow, fat, heavy breathing donut addicts. Couch commandos on the right better run some freakin laps!

Almost everyone in the Army has to be weapons qualified. I think chaplains are the only exception. So it is not too difficult to see how this man was trained, regardless of his MOS.

***might suggest that this was all pre-planned. ***

In the 1960s, police knew a riot was being planned by all the rocks and bottles being stockpiled on the roofs of buildings.

He wins.

He also be dead.

One shooter against a big city's cop squad does not a victory make.

Goal accomplished, perhaps.. but the cop squad remains and he does not.

In Minnesota a while back, the government healthcare workers went on strike so the governor activated the National Guard. So I know some guys who trained to load cargo in a plane, but we’re spending the week changing old guys’ diapers!

Kind of like the “show me how to fly the plane but I dont need to know how to land” stuff?

You didn’t ask the fitting question.

Ever try firing a rifle at night when the target is silhouetted?

The answer is: It is easier than shooting in bright sunlight.

Yes, I have trained in all levels of light from pitch black to daylight.

Just cause he’s a carpenter it doesn’t mean he cannot read and train.

Of course I like the “other carpenter.”

In my city, they always protest in the same place.

He was a member of a Combat Engineer Brigade. Such units often perform their duties under fire on the battlefield. Every soldier is tried to fire weapons. Do not fixate on Johnson being a carpenter/mason. Focus on where he was trained to be a carpenter/mason.

In addition, there are news reports that the murderer made two deployments to Afghanistan.

Don’t know how the MOSs are managed in the Army, but in the Marine Corps, “hammer swingers” are Combat Engineers and have a secondary mission to fight as infantry. Since infantry are in high demand in country, many non-infantry combat support MOSs end up being full trained in urban combat techniques and get their share of experience pulling convoy security, conducting close to the FOB ops, etc.

I suspect the Army operates in a similar fashion.

Another question is, why would a soldier choose of all weapons an SKS? They blew him up. A say Patsy.

The video shows superior shoot and movement skills. The officer behind the pillar was like a Quake gamer camping with no situational awareness in comparison. I refuse indeed to believe that a National Guard POG could do something like this. PoGs hardly shoot once or twice a year and many never can qualify

“Advanced Combat Training” to CNN producers is knowing how to handle the black scary assault stick thingy without having “PTSD.” Bonus points if you notice it says 1-2-3-4-R and there’s another concealed one that says 2WD and 4WD.
