Yes, that’s what it looks like—and the GOP should be in good shape on both pieces of that.

Were you a big Alan Keyes supporter back in the day, with the same thinking?

I think West would hurt Trump more than help, in that he would be seen missing on picking the governing experience he needs to balance the ticket.

I agree on Newt as CoS.

But I think the conventional wisdom on picking a candidate for a specific state seldom pays off (see Paul Ryan and WI), and often backfires by weakening the appearance of the ticket in multiple marginal states.

Fallin, the frontrunner as a female, is not a lousy politician.

I think she probably expected to become Secretary of State under a President Scoop Jackson (which would’ve been a marked improvement over Carter, at least on foreign affairs). But we know nothing about this Democrat General. Any military official who could remain with that party in the past 25 years is highly suspect.

Newt’s baggage is a carry on as compared to the Clinton “Trunk”.

I agree, however the MSM will destroy him while giving Slick a wink and a nod.
I think part of it is dims are allowed to skate because it's almost expected that they are sleazy while repubs are perceived as 'holy roller' and any deviation is hypocritical..

We are always commenting a sexual escapade by a dim is a resume enhancement. We guffaw but it's really true. Libs and MSM love their rogues.

Disagree w/your timeline.
Our sole principled conservative party was the Southern Agrarian Rural Democrats of Jefferson, Madison, Calhoun, Randolph; among others, which being fatally tarred w/slavery, drove it out of existence.
W/the victory of the North, the GOP which represented the Mercantile and later the Industrial class, became ascendant following the Civil War, until Hoover. The GOP has always been progressive soft left and destructive of the primacy of States Rights, the original intent and vision of our Founders. The GOP was the instrument of centralized power in DC from the first day of its existence in 1856 as it goes hand in hand w/its label as the party of big business aka crony capitalism.

Jeff Sessions might make a great VP once in office, but he would guarantee an election loss, so he would never get there. Without question.

Newt? I could live with him—I always believe that if you want something—go for it with everything you can. That being said—Gen. Flynn would also be OK, that or Condi Rice, or Chris Christie, or even Ted Cruz. Who ever Trump is comfortable with is OK by me. No to Rubio! No to Bush, no to anyone in the Anti-Trump wing of the GOPe.

If I haven’t heard of her, believe me, nobody has.

If we continue with this ‘we must have a woman on the ticket’ b.s., we are well and truly lost.

Yeah, that’s important. Someone should have mentioned that to Winston Churchill.

In 2012 he was hoping people would beg him to run.

They really didn’t, but he decided to run anyway. He hardly ever broke the double digits, except for a brief time.

People didn’t want him then. People don’t want him now.

Advisory capacity or Chief of Staff — maybe. One heartbeat away from the presidency — ABSOLUTELY NOT. Talk about a loose cannon.

I hesitate to necessarily pigeonhole the parties pre-1896, because the concepts of left/right become foggier viewed through today’s ideological lens. Each of the parties had their differing wings and factions from the beginning, some held longer than others and evolved (Jeffersonian Republicans became Jacksonian Democrats) or collapsed (Federalists, the irreconcilable split between the Cotton and Conscience Whig factions and the pro- and anti-slave factions of the Democrats).

The ridiculous and even distasteful thing about marriage and Newtie is that he was planking his current wife while his dying wife was ignored.

The CFR lifetime member is another Cheney awaiting in the wings for the call. I hope it never comes. Too much Conservative talent available.

At this point I’m even willing to take Flynn over Newt. I really am nervous on this one.
