Donald Trump's Dream Veep Is Newt Gingrich
Time ^ | July 5, 2016 | David Lane

Posted on 07/06/2016 7:31:46 AM PDT by newgeezer

The former House Speaker brings experience and still terrifies Democrats

Even nearly 20 years since he departed Congress, Newt Gingrich is still the most feared Republican in America. ...

The current Republican leadership is an unimpressive lot. They seem to be placeholders waiting for principled leaders like the former Speaker of the House to emerge. President Obama's hijacking of the constitutional power of the legislative branch—without cost or pain—would never have happened under a Gingrich-led Congress. ...

Republicans across the spectrum agree that Newt would be Donald Trump's best asset on the campaign trail this fall and a seasoned point-man in a Trump administration. ...

The former Speaker, one of the most innovative and formidable politicians in America, is a Churchillian figure. That kind of selection by Mr. Trump would, first, telegraph the caliber of people that he plans to bring to his administration; second, lend insight into the sort of selection he plans to make for Supreme Court Justices and third, show the type that Trump would elevate in military leadership. ...

And yes, Newt is not perfect. But, as former Texas Governor Rick Perry said of Newt and perfection in his concession speech for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012, "who among us is?" Perry is right; he echoes John 8:7: "The one sinless among you, let him cast the first stone."

In March of 2007 Newt admitted to adultery in an interview with Dr. James Dobson, during a Focus on the Family broadcast. "I've gotten on my knees and sought God's forgiveness," he said. ... ...

Since one of the premier responsibilities of the VP is to campaign for the party and to take down the opponent, Newt's political skill and historical insight would be a nightmare for Hillary Clinton.

...

I'm pulling for Newt.

Enough with the Newt pushing already - he has so many liabilities it’s not funny.

And this should be proof enough that he’s not as smart as he or anyone else who admires him thinks he is.

Affirmative action criteria? Really? You haven’t learned the lesson about how bad it is to use surface qualities as a means of picking candidates yet?

The MSM is not having the effect the once had.

That is why Trump kicked ass, by not caving in to them. And Newt will too.

Can you imagine the debate with Newt again ANY hilLIARy VP?

Remember Biden's last debate where he just laughed hysterically like Johnny Carson at everything that was said. Limbaugh said "You witnessed the mental breakdown of a politician" or something like that. And still the people vote for him.

Gingrich is a terrible choice.

Those who think he's a great choice are hanging on to 22 year old accomplishments and are ignoring what has transpired since the late 90’s.

Enough of the retreads. So many people are excited about having a candidate who is not a career politician. Why spoil that dynamic by putting a career politician who was, in reality, tossed out 18 years ago back in the spotlight?

That nullifies the “outsider” meme.

Stupid move.

Gingrich is bad news and needs to stay in the shadows like a good little RINO.

Nobody really votes for the Vice Presidential candidate. They are on the ballot, but people vote for the Presidential candidate. Veep nominees only have an impact on the margins, which may or may not come into play in a very close election.

It was a non factor in 2000, 2004, and 2012, In 2008 Palin probably brought in some Conservatives suspicious of McCain, but not enough.

Cruz would be better as he awaits a SCOTUS appointment in Trumps 2nd term.

Perhaps by Trump's second term, the Constitution will have been rewritten to allow Canadians to serve on the Supreme Court, but not likely.

The vast majority of Republican politicians are for free trade because that’s the conservative position, tariffs are taxes, taxes are bad. Most democrats and labor unions back protectionism and higher taxes on American consumers. Gingrich was a long time proponent of free trade, big backer of NAFTA.

But you guys may be glad to hear that Newt has flip-flopped to try and get this gig, says he now agrees with Trump on trade.

Flip flopping is what Newt does best.
