Donald Trump announced he would meet with Sen. Joni Ernst on Monday, one of several recent names dropped on his Twitter feed that are fueling speculation over his highly-anticipated vice presidential selection. "I look forward to meeting @joniernst today in New Jersey. She has done a great job as Senator of Iowa!" Trump tweeted early Monday.

Ernst's name appeared in reports on VP shortlists over the weekend, and a senior Trump adviser confirmed to CNN that Ernst is being considered.

Trump also doled out some conspicuous praise for Indiana Gov. Mike Pence and Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton, who have also been floated as potential running mates.

Trump tweeted his approval of Cotton's performance in an interview on Meet the Press on Sunday: "Senator Tom Cotton was great on Meet the Press yesterday. Despite a totally one-sided interview by Chuck Todd, the end result was solid!" Trump wrote.

Many of us have this unrealistic ideal of a "perfect running mate" that cannot possibly be satisfied.

A couple of "us" do not.

I did predict Joni months and months ago on kind of a whim.

There’s a lot that FReepers don’t know, and and what Trump is really thinking is one of them. He hasn’t turned to internet groups for advice yet and things have worked out pretty well.

The main reason people support a candidate is they trust the candidates judgement.

Trump is conservative enough; he needs a moderate like Christie for balance.

Why waste Christie in a nothing job like Veep? Better to put Chrisite into something like AG instead. I was pulling for Newt because Trump needs someone with experience in legislating to get his changes through. You know Paul Ryan isn't going to be helping him.

I thought Joni Ernst was a bit of a disappointment once she got to Washington. I also thought she didn’t really support Trump that much.

The biggest thing is she would not be ready to take of the presidency if needed.

Again, it is about getting things through the Senate. Joni has been their long enough. You can find my post on the case for Rand Paul. Also Burr from N.C. imho has got the Senate chops he needs. I am not buying the dog and pony vetting show. I want to know who they are truly looking at, my guess is that closer too the vest thsn we know....

I didn’t think Cotton was terribly wild about Trump. He went to that meeting at Sea Island with the rest of the anti-Trumpers. Perhaps that was just cover - and knowing the enemy.

Trust me I’m with you here. I’m voting Trump while at the same time holding my nose because I don’t want to see Hitlery in there. I had to tie my mind into knots like a pretzel and compromise many conservative principles in order to do so. A poster earlier stated he is conservative enough? That is utterly laughable. I wonder how many others have had to perform epic leaps of mind twisting to convince themselves Trump is conservative? I’m not fooled, I’m voting for him to turn Washington upside down and that is it.

I will support Trump’s pick. But as much as I admire Newt, I hope he picks someone younger. Joni Ernst might be a very good choice.

We need someone who knows how to win. The near term objective is winning. Nothing else just pick the person who will make us win,win and win. No nuancing crap. Brute force winning. Smash mouth winning and in your face winning. Find that person and get out of his way.

"She was deployed to Kuwait during the Iraq War.
What was Hillary doing at the time?

Probably running Whitewater like financial scams and
putting up with Bill's extra-marital affairs. Plus having
a few affairs of her own.

“Trump is conservative enough; he needs a moderate like Christie for balance.”

Riiight. Remember how that worked for Reagan.

The Moderates have done everything the can to destroy the Reagan legacy.

Ernst and Cotton both voted for giving Obama fast-track authority.

Odd that Trump would want them as a VP. Kinda against his mantra on trade.

Can either one of them go up against the Clinton Crime family and the media? What experience do they have at either? None, nada, zip and never have they had any experience at this. Why pick them? At least Newt knows what dirtbags these people are. Why put total rookies in when this is Super Bowl.
