The U.S. military response was perplexingly inadequate Sept. 11, 2012, the night Americans were attacked by Islamist terrorists in Benghazi, Libya.
That’s one overarching conclusion reached by two leading Republicans on the House Select Committee on Benghazi after an investigation lasting a year and a half.
“Until now the administration has led us to believe the military did not have assets, men, or machines close enough or ready enough to arrive in Benghazi in time to save lives,” Reps. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, and Mike Pompeo, R-Kansas, write. “An asset that could have made a difference would have been armed drones. And as the committee learned, it would have been relatively fast and easy to arm a drone.”

From what I heard today, it STILL comes down to Cross-Border Authority and WHERE WAS OBAMA?
That’s why the “final report” talked about the question of not getting a rescue force moving until the “govt. of Libya” (LOL) approved it. Should we send them to Tripoli? Should we send them to Benghazi? We need to ask the Libyan government, but who is in charge??
Only the POTUS could just give this direct order to the DOD and DOS: “forget about getting ‘Libyan approval,’ JUST MOVE THE RESCUE FORCES NOW! CBA is granted, here’s my written order, NOW MOVE!”
If Obama didn’t give CBA, then the DOS wasted all those hours wrangling over who to get “Libyan approval” from.
For the Osama Bin Ladin raid in Pakistan, Obama granted CBA. (And he stayed up to watch the results) We did the OBL raid without getting approval from Pakistan.
But that required CBA from POTUS, and only POTUS can grant CBA. Having the DOS wasting hours getting approval from the “government of Libya” (sic) is not the same as getting CBA.
That’s why Obama’s location that night is so critical, and that question is still unanswered. (My guess is he was hiding in the family quarters in order not to be pinned down to grant or
deny CBA.)
Remember, an Ambassador is equal in rank to a 4-star general. An ambassador possibly captured and in the hands of an AQ-affiliated jihadist group is a MAJOR crisis, much more dangerous to national security than the loss of four American lives, (as happens every time a helicopter crashes or some Afghan “ally” frags some U.S. soldiers).
But Obama hid, instead of leading the charge from the situation room!

My personal opinion on this entire nightmare, is that the repuicants ie McCain et al, are in up their eyeballs on this weapon movement business...that to me is the only reason Gowdy slammed on the brakes.

There were no assets available because they didn’t want them there! Stand down orders? BS! We are dealing with the Democrat/Media Body Guard of lies. Stevens wasn’t suppose to be killed, Woods and Doughty weren’t suppose to be there. The mob was there to kidnap Stevens, there were no armed personnel there, if it was a drop off for weapons, why didn’t anyone use them? A pincer attack with heavy weapon support was no spontaneous uprising, it was a pre-planned attack. There was to be no resistance, just a show of strength by the opposing force, which turned into a battle when 2 ex seals went to the rescue. Notice how the Press covered the request to release Sheikh Rahman by Mursi in June of 2012? (Cherp, cherp, cherp) How does one get to release a WTC Bomber without public dissent that close to an election? I’m not alone in this thinking, many of my cohort military guys see it as a very devious move by those who we grant power. Do I trust anyone in the most open administration? Hell no.

You certainly shouldn't believe that. There are in-extremis forces that train constantly for no other purpose than embassy rescues...

In a situation, you go with the resources you have available—and, in this particular case, we did have that 130-man Marine force recon team sitting there at Sigonella. Even if I only got 50 of them over there, that would have been significant in turning the situation around. We may not have been able to save the ambassador, but we certainly could have saved those other two SEALs that were over on the annex.

The point on the organizing the two Marine anti-terrorist teams in Rota, that was good to go ahead and stand ’em up. What I find incomprehensible: The first team, it took them 23 hours to go a few hundred miles from Rota to Tripoli. I could go around the world in 23 hours, so that makes absolutely no sense to me.
