During the 12 months ending June 30, the number of people leaving California for another state exceeded by 61,100 the number who moved here from elsewhere in the U.S., according to state Finance Department statistics. The so-called "net outward migration" was the largest since 2011, when 63,300 more people fled California than entered.
"The main factors are housing costs in many parts of the state, including coastal regions of California such as the Bay Area," said Dan Hamilton, director of economics with the Economic Forecasting Center at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks.
"California has seen negative outward migration to other states for 22 of the last 25 years."

A recent poll revealed that an unsettling sense of yearning has descended on people in the Bay Area: About one-third of those surveyed by the Bay Area Council say they would like to exit the nine-county region sometime soon.
"They are tired of the expense of living here. They are tired of the state of California and the endless taxes here," said Scott McElfresh, a certified moving consultant. "People are getting soaked every time they turn around."

What the hell is a “certified moving consultant”? Does this mean that the gubmint now certifies our movements? I try to keep my movements timely and personal.
Higher wages WILL definitely drive out jobs also is going to flood our state with more illegal immigrants coming to get 15.00 an hour for menial jobs!!! This state is done GREAT weather though!!!
That 9.00 burger in CA. will be going up to 11.00 in January when wages go up ANOTHER 1.00 and a dollar EVERY YEAR until 15.00 is reached!!!
anyone who moves to where I live from California buys the best houses and lots of extras....no hesitation on remodels, or add ons or buying expensive toys....because they all sold high and are loaded with cash...
I left the bay area, too, but I headed to 60 miles north of San Diego. (Somebody’s gotta man the border, right? and what better place than surrounded by jarheads?) Traffic is manageable, weather is similar to Phoenix, there are jobs in the area in ag services (my shearer is overwhelmed with requests), residential and commercial construction, and there’s a few freshwater lakes pretty close if I don’t want to drive over the mountain to Capistrano. Not much reason to go north to LA but am enjoying San Diego a whole lot. Taxes still suck eggs and the cost of electric, even with LED everything, is stickershock every month, but I’m a whole lot happier down here on a ranch with like-minded neighbors. And, having traveled, a lot, I understand that being able to claim being Californian in California gains me more acceptance from the locals (shtf time) than being a transplant - who will almost always be viewed as a transplant by the locals.
The least affordable place to live in America is

The most unaffordable place to live in the US is not San Francisco or Manhattan. Its Brooklyn.
A person earning the average salary in Brooklyn cannot afford the average home there even if he could spend his entire salary (and then some) on housing, according to a survey released Thursday by real estate firm RealtyTrac, which looked at home sales price data in 417 of the most populous counties in the US as well as average wage data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The second- and third-most unaffordable places in America are Marin County, Calif., and Santa Cruz, Calif. both of which would also require the average wage earner to spend his or her entire salary and more to buy the median home in the area.
In each of these three cases, many people priced out of Manhattan, San Francisco and San Jose are moving from the pricey city center to Brooklyn, Marin County and Santa Cruz, respectively, which is pushing prices there up, says Daren Blomquist, vice president of RealtyTrac. Meanwhile, wages in those counties arent keeping pace with the home price appreciation, which makes these three areas the most unaffordable in the nation for residents looking to buy. (Note that the average home prices in Manhattan, San Francisco and San Jose are still higher than in Brooklyn, Marin and Santa Cruz, but so are the wages.)

Don’t worry. They are just moving to affordable areas but will vote in tax hikers and regulations builders to make their new town California all over again.
I have already decided to park my car in the next center over and walk in, many, many of us are NOT going most people just can’t afford to go, I have a small catering business my main source of income, I work for my medical insurance many of the folks I work with though REALLY can’t afford to go out this economy is HORRIBLE they are VERY great full to have a job with great benefits!!!!
when only the communist Chinese “immigrants” can afford a fast food burger, you know Californication’s politicans have sealed her doom...
The only problem is that the Cali people are bringing the same crazy socialism to Texas that got them in trouble.
Please do not come to our states and ruin ours because you couldn’t take of your own.
Wow...what kind of business is that?
Actually the DAMNED IMMIGRANT voters that elected these asshats sealed her doom!!! To think at one time Reagan was our governor is ASTOUNDING!!! I partially blame Reagan for this MASSIVE immigration, he should NEVER have given amnesty and believed the DEMS would close the DAMNED border!!!
Texas , the gulf coast states, and the Mississippi river states are going to boom when the new widened Panama Canal opens this month. No need to offload cargo in California and haul it by train to the Midwest or east coast. Just go through the canal and dock in Texas or other Gulf ports.
over-population (brought about mostly by immigration) has ruined CA, yes
but the biggest damage to the state has been perpetrated by some of CA’s politicians (not just in providing welfare benefits for immigrants but ... in opporessive tax and regulatory policies, etc... the politicians have made California nearly unliveable
I wouldn’t put too much stock in this. 61,100 a year is a drop in the bucket in a state of 40 million. And contrary to what most Freepers think, CA economy is growing faster than the rest of the country. Housing prices don’t rise in a down economy, and they’ve gone up in my area about 25% in the last 2 years. Despite the damage done by the Democrats CA still has one of the largest economies in the world, and growing.

Surging California economy vaulted to worlds 6th largest in 2015
“The federal Bureau of Economic Analysis says that Californias economy expanded by 5.7 percent in 2015, second only to Oregons 5.9 percent in nominal terms and tied with Oregon at 4.1 percent in constant dollars.”

Whenever you run across one, ask them why they left. After they finish reeling off the litany of woe, just remind them “yeah, that always happens when Democrats take over.” Their response will let you know whether you should ever willingly interact with them again.
#29. Don’t worry. Obama and his Marxists are still working very hard to make life for the average working person MORE INTOLERABLE.
Look for a new push to strip many of the older worker class of Medicare insurance/services.
Look for more illegals being given driving licenses, without insurance, voting rights, and more benefits from your taxes. Hey, its your tax money the feds are spending on upwards of 65,000+ Syrian refugees who don’t even know what a toilet is.
New taxes and costly regulations are in the works on diesel-powered cars, trains, and ships.
THe EPA is on PMS and it will never end until Trump is elected president (warts and all. I’ll take those warts over what I see in the Democrat-Marxists).
