California's skyrocketing housing costs, taxes prompt exodus of residents
The San Jose Mercury News ^ | June 20, 2016 | George Avalos

During the 12 months ending June 30, the number of people leaving California for another state exceeded by 61,100 the number who moved here from elsewhere in the U.S., according to state Finance Department statistics. The so-called "net outward migration" was the largest since 2011, when 63,300 more people fled California than entered.

"The main factors are housing costs in many parts of the state, including coastal regions of California such as the Bay Area," said Dan Hamilton, director of economics with the Economic Forecasting Center at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks.

"California has seen negative outward migration to other states for 22 of the last 25 years."

A recent poll revealed that an unsettling sense of yearning has descended on people in the Bay Area: About one-third of those surveyed by the Bay Area Council say they would like to exit the nine-county region sometime soon.

"They are tired of the expense of living here. They are tired of the state of California and the endless taxes here," said Scott McElfresh, a certified moving consultant. "People are getting soaked every time they turn around."

In addition to what’s mentioned, people are sick of crime, traffic jams, auto accidents from people who can’t read the traffic signs, and an overbearing state government.

It’s possible though not certain that California may lose a Congressional district in the next census.

Its not just migration, its migration of productive people. You can see this happening in other states as well.

Negative migration in terms of taxpayers. I’m sure the Central American invasion more than compensates for the exodus (in terms of population).

I have family members I’m trying to convince to move from California. Why they stay is beyond me.

On I-10 this past weekend between Tucson and Austin, Mrs. Neck and I saw many east-bound car haulers loaded with cars sporting California plates. Also, a number of UHauls towing Cali car with spouse trailing along with the other Cali car. I hope, hope, hope they’re all continuing on to NY, CT and MA and not stopping in TX.

Count us among those productive taxpaying citizens who fled SoCal for literally greener pastures in 2015.

We could not be happier here in E Tennessee.

If not for illegal immigration and the children of illegal immigrants there would be a declining population in California. I am in California. The only people from Texas I ever see here are Marines, and they are not staying after they get out of the military. On the other hand, I know several people who I used to work with who have moved to Texas.

The hell of it is that a lot of them are coming to Arizona and bringing their nonsensical politics with them.

Yep they’re all moving to Arizona Texas New Mexico and the majority are illegals ... They have an agenda “make America Mexico again”...don’t ever forget that! We are so screwed. And you wonder why The She Devil is leading in the Arizona poll! And Mr. Trump is barely squeaking out a few percentages points on top of the Texas poll! The invasion of our own country is at a critical point just like in Britain where they couldn’t even muster up a majority vote to get the hell out of the evil EU! God help us or COME quickly Lord Jesus!!

I was joking about min wage hike, that would drive out jobs. See Detroit. But legislators are simpletons, and many would believe that higher minimum wage will draw people to the state.

And yes, unions are by a large a very destructive force, having long outlived their usefulness, and now used mostly to fatten the wallets of the union management.

in addition to the much-discussed Mexican population in California, that state also has a massive influx of communist Chinese (and some more Asians)....
it is the communist Chinese that pay ALL CASH ($2, 3, or 5 million at a pop) for old, used tract houses
... this real estate bubble is part of the reason regular American citizens are moving out (as more and more Americans cannot afford to stay)

CA also has the highest living costs (due to its Highest in America overall tax load....and massive regulations that drive up the cost of doing business... which all has to be passed on to customers in higher and higher taxes)

the “best $5 burger in America” costs $9.70 in California (taxes included)

You are correct. Illegals are more than making up for it.
