For later.....
I wonder why no mention of fluorescent lights. The light from those things is unpleasant, harsh, and depressing.
I have looked for fluorescent lights that have the same warm quality of light as incandescent bulbs, and have not found any.
They are warning against too high a color temperature.
Too high a color temperature will result in global color warming. The color glaciers will melt, and the rainbow polar bears will drown.
So no one has to click through to get the recommendation: The AMA is recommending a color temperature of 3000K, instead of the 4000K-5000K that have been installed in some places like New York and Seattle. This is in order to reduce harshness by minimizing light toward the blue end of the spectrum.
The ones in the Supermarket parking lot up the street seem to always be burning out
Is the AMA going to issue warnings about the color temperature of HID and LED headlights on modern cars?
Give me a break.
(And yes, I read the entire article.)
Hm...so the AMA thinks there are a lot of people standing around staring at street lights? Methinks this is much ado about nothing.
The codes conflict. In shopping mall parking lots, one generally wants a higher temperature light to better identify colors in vehicles and personnel identification.
Conversely, many counties may have dark sky ordinances which restrict allowable lighting angles and colors.
Some architectural codes mandate lower intensities for energy efficiency, while other security codes mandate higher luminosity.
LEDs tend to use highly directional light which retains intensity for 10X or greater the observable distances. That’s why they are popular in street lights, traffic signals, and vehicle lights. Conversely, the higher frequency blue-white light can transmit blinding intensities greater distances than generally preferred.
Can’t stand LED light.
So harsh. People say we will get used to it but I’m not sure I will.
I especially hate the LED headlights on cars.
Discussing the colors of LED lights without their permission is a micro-aggression and racist.
Houston has very yellow street lights. A few months ago I ran a red traffic light because the yellow traffic light was right beside a street light and I didn’t recognize what I was seeing. The yellow traffic light was only a little bit brighter than the street light, dangerously similar.
Normally I dismiss this sort of stuff as pap.
However, they have a point.
A local convenience store retrofitted their halogens with LED’s. They are so very bright that if you look directly at them — even briefly and by accident — you get that ‘sunstreak’ you get when the sun crosses your vision.
I can’t think it’s great for people. Maybe they need to cover the lights with a diffuser.
They should warn about the health hazards of LED traffic signals in cold climates. They don’t generate any heat, so they get covered in snow and ice and no-one can tell when the light is changing. Mayhem ensues.
Women and minorities hardest hit.
Now who do I sue?
No mention of the blinding LED headlights from hell though. That’s odd. For LED’s inside all a person needs to do is buy Soft White LED Bulbs. They put out a light much like an incandescent. I made the mistake when I change my house over to LED of buying Daylight or daytime LED lights. They are a blue tint and real hard on the eyes. I use both daylight and Soft white on my outdoor flood lights because I want to mess with wildlife namely unwanted Yotes near my house.
