I wonder why no mention of fluorescent lights. The light from those things is unpleasant, harsh, and depressing.

I have looked for fluorescent lights that have the same warm quality of light as incandescent bulbs, and have not found any.

They are warning against too high a color temperature.

Too high a color temperature will result in global color warming. The color glaciers will melt, and the rainbow polar bears will drown.

You can get fluorescent tubes in any color temperature you want... but you’ll pay handsomely for them.

Because they don’t exist

So no one has to click through to get the recommendation: The AMA is recommending a color temperature of 3000K, instead of the 4000K-5000K that have been installed in some places like New York and Seattle. This is in order to reduce harshness by minimizing light toward the blue end of the spectrum.

The ones in the Supermarket parking lot up the street seem to always be burning out

I’ve looked. The warmer, yellower colors similar to incandescent lights just don’t exist. Plus, fluorescent bulbs are so bright. I hate them.

What does this have to do with LEDs? Flourescents are obsolete.

4100K is a happy medium - light yellow without feeling tiring and when mixed with 5000K it feels like natural daylight is flooding the room.

2700K just feels too yellow and way too warm.

LED bulbs were small and RED to begin, and it took decades to mo e across the visible spectrum to BLUE.YELLOW LED are certainly made, just not in streetlights.Planners and city officials believe brighter light equals less crime. What too much light equals is eyestrain just as surely as too little.Harsh, glaring light is the worst kind.

Because the AMA has come out with warnings about LEDs, but has said nothing about the equally bad fluorescents. Why the one but not the other?

Fluorescents are not obsolete. The brand new building where I work is lit exclusively by fluorescents. They turn on all by themselves whenever someone enters a room. I turn them right back off.

Is the AMA going to issue warnings about the color temperature of HID and LED headlights on modern cars?

Give me a break.

(And yes, I read the entire article.)

The sensor can turn on any type of light,it has nothing to do with those being fluorescent.

Hm...so the AMA thinks there are a lot of people standing around staring at street lights? Methinks this is much ado about nothing.

Well, I will. Fluorescents are full of mercury vapor which is extremely toxic (compared to the vilified liquid mercury which is not) The tree-hugging moonbat freaks banned mirrors, headlamps, thermometers, thermostats, which contained the metal, but yet promoted their crappy curly-que fluorescent bulbs.

Why the one but not the other?

Could it be........Satan?

I only use incandescent.

they are called contractor lights and they are 130 volts, last a long time and are available through the net.

The codes conflict. In shopping mall parking lots, one generally wants a higher temperature light to better identify colors in vehicles and personnel identification.

Conversely, many counties may have dark sky ordinances which restrict allowable lighting angles and colors.

Some architectural codes mandate lower intensities for energy efficiency, while other security codes mandate higher luminosity.

LEDs tend to use highly directional light which retains intensity for 10X or greater the observable distances. That’s why they are popular in street lights, traffic signals, and vehicle lights. Conversely, the higher frequency blue-white light can transmit blinding intensities greater distances than generally preferred.

Can’t stand LED light.
So harsh. People say we will get used to it but I’m not sure I will.

I especially hate the LED headlights on cars.
