National: Clinton Leads Trump By 7 (Monmouth 47-40)

West Long Branch, NJ – In a head-to-head contest for president, Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump by 7 points among registered voters and by 8 points among likely voters. The Democrat’s lead shrinks by a point when potential third party support is taken into account.

Both major party nominees remain unpopular, but more voters say it is important to keep Trump rather than Clinton out of the White House. The latest Monmouth University Poll also finds that attitudes towards terrorism and the Republican nominee’s proposed Muslim ban have not changed much since the Orlando tragedy. Currently, Clinton holds a 7 point lead in a direct match-up against Trump – 47% to 40% among registered voters nationally. Among those who are likely to cast ballots in November, the Democrat’s edge expands to 49%–41%. Importantly, Clinton holds a 47% to 39% lead in the all-important swing states – ten states where the winning margin in the 2012 election was less than seven points.

ONLY good thing is she is under 50%. There has been a trend toward Trump in the polls since the Muzzi attack....

Voter turnout in Blue State Democratic primaries topped GOP turnout.

The only way Trump has a chance is to win big with independents.

People like to fantasize about skewed polls. They said the same thing about McCain and Romney.

Facts are stubborn things and if the election was held today - Hillary would win comfortably.

Interesting. I suspect I will unearth some Hillary supporters eventually (I’m in Kansas but I’m also basing my assessment on friends and extended family from Alabama). And I know most democrats eventually crawl to the polls and vote party line. But the absence of support or excitement for Hillary in my realm is amazing, especially when I see so much Bernie support.

You lumped Hillary supporters along with Obama, I noticed...and she’s always needed that. She has billed herself as a package deal that comes with Bill, and now the continuation of the Obama presidency. She doesn’t seem able to campaign on her own merits. In fact, she lets Bill, Chelsea, Obama, etc. do a lot of the campaigning for her. This has worked well for her, but she may hit a brick wall at the first debate.

Considering that Hillary and by extention Obama were shown to be the weak and lacking in leadership right after the Orlando attacks.

That being the case, Hillary should win easily.

Ahh, slippery mole, are you going back to the hillary camp now...or now!

Bill doesn’t even like her!

That's a fair point. I'd love to know who he votes for.

He may vote for her, out of his own self-interest. "Ah'd luv to git back into the White House and check out the interns, just one more time!"

Hillary only at 47 is good. It’s expected. Trump is reasonable if you believe the the current 70-80% unfavorable rating

Breakdown by state will be important. They aren’t going to break in the usual, predictable way

POLL DEMOGRAPHICS

28% republican

38% Independent

34% democRAT

53% female

47% male

Skewed democRAT by 8 points, and vagina by 6 points

This poll is meaningless drivel

Hahahahahahahahaaha.....

I don’t doubt that’s what their numbers say, but its clear they have some huge problems in their sampling and or assumptions if they are turning out those numbers.

25% 18-34
71% White
38% Ind
53% Female
26% 35-49
13% Black
34% Dem
28% 50-64
10% Hispanic
21% 65+
5% Asian/Other

Correction:34 percent Dems or an 8 point spread. 38 percent for Independent is simply not believable when compered to the reality of the numbers of independents who actually exist to vote in the general election.

They won’t come around for Trump until the convention is done....there is still an expectation of a floor fight and possible brokered convention in some folks’ minds so they won’t solidify their votes for Trump until then!

National polls mean next to nothing in terms of being a barometer of the race and suggestion of the likely winner.
The real measure worth value is the state by state of the toss-up states.
