What to Expect When Trump Meets 900 Evangelical Leaders Tuesday
CP Politics ^ | 6/19/16 | Anugrah Kumar

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's closed-door meeting Tuesday with 900 top evangelical and social conservative leaders will be a time of questions and answers on issues such as the Supreme Court, sanctity of life and religious freedom, according to an organizer, who said a similar meeting is being discussed also with Trump's rival Hillary Clinton.

"Of the more than 50,000 questions that came in, many of them focused on those three issues. Others focused on issues related to leadership, national security, and faith," Johnnie Moore, the spokesperson for My Faith Votes, a non-partisan organization focused on engaging the 25 million Christians who did not vote in 2012 and one of the two groups behind the meeting, told The Christian Post.

"We democratized the solicitation of questions so that this meeting would be even more representative of Christians in America than the 900 people in attendance," Moore said. The meeting, "A Conversation About America's Future with Donald Trump and Ben Carson," will be held in New York City. Both organizers My Faith Votes and United in Purpose seek to bring about cultural change in America based on Judeo-Christian principles and motivate and mobilize people of faith in the democratic process through responsible citizenship.

Asked how Trump intends to ease concerns of evangelical leaders, Moore said the purpose of the meeting is not to persuade anyone, "but to better introduce everyone to one another."

Where were these people when Obama claimed, when not alluding to his Muslim faith, to be a Christian?

Actually, this could be a very difficult meeting for Trump. At our very conservative church ( definitely not PC when it comes to abortion and gay marriage), immigration is a very big deal, and, while not mentioning Trump by name, they don’t like his position one bit. They believe that with each Muslim who relocates here, there is a potential convert to Christianity. I have pointed out that we now have two generations of Muslim immigration to Europe and America, and there is no evidence of any statistically significant conversion from Islam to Christianity and no reason to think that will change.

They aren’t listening.

I have talked to several Cruzbots that say they will vote 3rd party, do a write in or not vote. (Yes dumb move on their part for sure but that is how they feel)...I am praying that those meeting Trump will decide to back him! Many Christian groups have not as yet. Hoping they will also email their groups to do the same.

“They believe that with each Muslim who relocates here, there is a potential convert to Christianity.”

You want to talk about make-believe Christianity and pretense, that takes the cake.

Could you ask them for me how your church/churches have been doing with resident Americans? It is Biblical to take care of your own household first.

It is a shame that Mr, Trump, having dominated evangelical voters in the primary and speaking so forcefully before groups like AIPAC and Faith & Freedom Coalition, has to pander further for their support.
News of perhaps Justice Clarence Thomas considering retirement coupled with Scalia’s still empty chair on SCOTUS should solidify Mr. Trump’s backing even more.
How can any Christian leader think twice about whom to endorse when we are under siege from an enemy who persecutes people who do not follow Islam???
Also, assimilation among Muslims to our society has
been proven to be extremely unsuccessful as you point out.
I wish so many people in our country weren’t so foolish!!!

Many in my also conservative church are of a like attitude. My response, “Matt. 28:19 states “Go ye therefore and teach all nations...”.
These immigrants were pushed our of their countries in part by our foreign policies of the last 25 years. How Christian is it to displace people to evangelize them in the comfort of your own country?
Stabilize their country and then Go ye therefore........

I don’t suppose Trump will be playing this song in the background during their meeting.

That is lunacy. The old Southern Baptist Church I went to had problems, but figuring out self-preservation wasn’t one of them.

Another talking point I've seen various churches push (and it's even pushed by some "conservative" religious FReepers) is that we should be THANKFUL that there are hordes of immigrants from third world Latin American countries here because "at least they are Christian" and they will preserve a "Christian culture" in America because the native born Americans aren't (a variation of the "doing the job Americans won't do" argument).

Of course, reality shows us something entirely different -- many of these immigrants are "Christian" only in the sense that they were baptized decades ago, and today they are non-practicing, don't go to church, and don't give a hoot that Christianity preaches that embryonic stem cell research is murder or that Obamacare forcing nuns to pay for abortions is immoral and so on. The only higher power they worship is freebies from the government.

But this simple fact is ignored by the "praise Jesus, the immigrants are CHRISTIANS" types pretending we're experiencing some type of great religious revival in America thanks to massive uneducated third world illegals.

I know many who refuse to vote for trump, and are still holding out for a cruz takeover, they feel he is still leading them, and many of these still worship beck, I think they have been blinded. I tried to talk to one the other day and he was downright belligerent, I was shocked by his attitude.

Good point. In fact, I said a long time ago that American Christianity’s greatest failure was to focus on the “poor” and ignore the wealthy, especially the uber-rich. One Bill Gates could have changed thousands of lives that Debbie the Dumpster Diver couldn’t. Sorry, but that’s reality unless you are of the “Make believe Christianity” school where all you do is “spread the love of Jesus” and people can’t wait to get baptized.
