Britain Asks if Tone of ‘Brexit’ Campaign Made Violence Inevitable
New York Times ^ | June 17, 2016 | Steven Erlanger

LONDON — As the shock of the brutal murder of a young member of Parliament began to subside on Friday, there was a growing sense in Britain that something ominous had been unleashed in the country.

The increasingly ugly anti-immigrant tone to the campaign over next week’s referendum on Britain’s membership in the European Union, coupled with the violence of English fans at the European soccer championships and now the killing of a lawmaker on the streets of a small town, has left many here feeling that the boundaries of acceptable behavior are breaking down....

Any of us could have written this ten seconds after the news broke. You have to admire the Left. They are relentless, they are goal-oriented, they never, ever fight with each other (unlike, let's say, Paul Ryan), and they never give up. The Eye of Sauron never sleeps.

I would say that it’s the EU itself that made violence inevitable. Push people enough and they’re going to react.

“The increasingly ugly anti-immigrant tone”

“Ugly” refers to exposing the truth about immigration. So, be sweet now and allow the country to be completely destroyed.

“...coupled with the violence of English fans at the European soccer championships”

British soccer fans have always been a bit violent, for some unexplained reason. I watched a soccer game once and it was the most boring thing in the world.

“...and now the killing of a lawmaker on the streets of a small town...”

Hired assassin to try to change election outcome, and “the streets of a small town” is supposed to mar the idyllic image of the gentle Muslin invasion.

The left always talks about their opponents tone, while their own actions are violent, provocative and aggressive.

Leftist: You disagree with me? Well, that incites violence and we can’t have that. I’ll have to round you folks up and kill you before you start any further trouble.”

That is what is coming. Anyone critical of the EU will be arrested for a thought crime.

That is an excellent way of summarizing leftist philosophy.

People commit violence of their own free will. Rhetoric doesn’t force people to kill.

If anyone was paying attention to the Left, they would know that murder is exactly what they want. Now the Lefties get to play the victim of those mean “right wing Nazis”.

If rhetoric was the cause, why was there only one murder?

One of the reasons to have a limited government Republic is to channel the grievances of each faction into political channels rather than violence. If that system breaks down, violence is the result. The two largest parties in England are ignoring the cries of enough English people that something like this was inevitable. England would do well to consider this a canary in the mine, and perhaps pick up the dusty copy of Tale of Two Cities and re-read it. The book was written as a WARNING to England.

What rubbish. It’s possible that some harsh rhetoric did push the nutcase over the edge. To what extent, though, must the entire kingdom be responsible for the actions of one crazy person?

As a white guy I ask: Is violence ever expectable or someone else’s fault if I do it?

There’s one of the Four Boxes you’ve forgotten...

The Jury Box.

Douglass listed it as the soap box, the ballot box and the jury box, and it was Larry McDonald that added the ammo box.

I also like to combine that with Ragnar Redbeard’s that man-made laws have no inherent authority, in and of themselves. Instead, they gain their authority through one or a combination of the club, the gallows, and the sword.

Any of us could have written this ten seconds after the news broke.

It was written months, maybe years ago, just fill in the blanks with the names of the assailant and victim, add a couple current quotes, and you're good to go.

Sorta like liberal legislation, it took decades to write obamacare, when the right climate was created, they just pulled all 906 pages from the file folder.

No need to read the bill (we've been rereading and updating it since the 30s). Just vote for it...

It’s possible that some harsh rhetoric did push the nutcase over the edge....

Though the Orthodox Left blamed this murder on the Leave crowd, while the MP was still breathing, it's become clear since that the 'assassin' was a simple head case, and Ms. Cox became a victim by interfering in a public, domestic squabble.

The timing and target made my first reaction high suspicion, even to the point of thinking the crazy Labour Leader had a potential rival shot to stop the momentum shift in favor of Leave, serving to further two objects in one blow.
