Poll: Most Voters Don’t View Clinton’s Nomination as Historic (Clinton 42 - Trump 37)
Morning Consult ^ | 6/14/2016 | Eli Yokley

Hillary Clinton’s achievement of becoming the first woman to secure a major party’s presidential nomination is viewed by four in 10 voters as a “historic moment” for the country, according to a new national poll by Morning Consult.

The survey of 1,362 voters, conducted in the days after she claimed the requisite number of delegates, found the sentiment to be stronger among women than men. Only a third (33 percent) of men said Clinton’s achievement was historic, while 42 percent of women shared the view.

Groups such as EMILY’s List, which helps to elect Democratic women, have claimed her victory as a major moment in American history, pointing out that women did not even get the right to vote until 1920.

“This is a big deal. A stop-everything-you’re-doing-to-think-about-the-history-we-just-made big deal,” said Stephanie Schriock, the group’s president, in a post on Medium.

And while most American voters we polled may not ascribe great importance to Clinton’s achievement, her lead in the general-election race against Republican nominee Donald Trump is growing. Thirty-nine percent of voters said they back Clinton over Trump, who was the first choice for one-third of respondents. One in 10 voters opted for Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson.

In a head-to-head race without a third-party candidate, Clinton leads Trump 42 percent to 37 percent. A little more than one-fifth (21 percent) of voters remain undecided in that scenario.

The Morning Consult survey polled 1,362 voters from June 8-9 with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points. View the toplines here and here and the crosstabs here and here.

Confirm from Morning Consult that Hillary got a bump last week and Trump ticked down due to negative coverage and non-stop assault by the media. However, Hillary cannot break 42 (again) and the numbers of undecideds are huge. Potential concern from this little gadfly Gary Johnson, who at the moment is a parking place for people who are not comfortable with Trump. This poll was taken June 8-9, right after the last primaries but before Orlando. Let's see what this says next week.

Not historic because she didn’t earn it.

The Democrats OWED her bigtime for not walking away and tanking her husband’s Presidency when Drudge broke the Monica story nearly twenty years ago.

This nomination was handed to her because her party had no choice.

I see it as a mistake, especially since she should be in jail by now.

No it isn't, Stephanie. 60% of women disagree with you.

This election is going to be hand to hand combat. Trump is up against the DNC, MSM and unfortunately the GOP as well.

The fact that The Beast’s campaign style is histrionic doesn’t make her nomination historic.

An act of historic stupidity, perhaps.

She has already been a co president from 1992 to 2000 , and was married to the first black president, so she is not so historic.

The GOP is like the Democrats - they are all well purchased by Saudi and other Islamic money. Wealthy beyond their wildest dreams by selling out to Islam. If they want that gravy train of Islamic dollars to keep heading into their bank accounts, they will have to unite to try and beat Trump. Republicans are as bad as the Democrats - they’ve sold out to Islam the same way. That’s why they take the same position on terrorist attacks in America...that you can’t blame Islam.

Wow. Almost six in ten women see nothing historic or noteworthy about Hillary being the first woman pres. nominee of a major party.

It’s puzzling in a way. Love her or hate her, Hillary has made history as a woman nominee for president.

Interesting that so few people really care about that.

Could it be because she is Hillary Clinton, she’s only there because of her husband, and the stench emanating from the Clintons outweighs whatever “historic achievement” liberals want to talk about with HIllary????

Most voters are clueless. One of the biggest crime families in history has a good chance to take control of the most powerful country in history. I’d call that historic.

The whole premise of the question is intended to push the weak-minded in Hillary’s direction.

“Historic? Like, wow! I never thought of it like that!”
