PPP: Pennsylvania Close; Sanders Supporter Unity Would Make It Not Close (Trump Tie 2-way, -1 3-way)
Public Policy Polling (PPP) ^ | 6/8/2016 | PPP

Posted on 06/08/2016 12:08:19 PM PDT by NYRepublican72

PPP's new Pennsylvania poll finds a close race between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump in the state, although both a generic Democratic candidate and Bernie Sanders have more substantial leads that bode well for Clinton's chances if she can get the party unified around her in the weeks ahead.

Clinton has 41% to 40% for Trump, with Gary Johnson at 6% and Jill Stein at 3%. In a head to head match up, Clinton and Trump tie at 44%. Similarly to what we found on the Florida poll we released yesterday, Republicans are more unified around Trump (79/8) than Democrats are around Clinton (75/15). That dynamic is what's making the state competitive.

Democrats lead a generic ballot question for President 45/41, which is pretty similar to Barack Obama's margin of victory in the state in 2012. Bernie Sanders has a substantial advantage over Trump, 45/36, with Johnson at 5% and Stein at 1%. In a head to head contest Sanders leads Trump 51/39.

Right now, being that it is summer, people tend to go on its summertime thinking mode. They do not pay any attention to politics until Labor Day or right after.

One of the BIG problems Conservatives have in Pittsburgh is that our TOP FIVE EMPLOYERS are:

5) University of Pittsburgh
4) Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
3) United States Government
2) Highmark
1) UPMC

With Allegheny County close behind at #8. All of them dependent on a very large degree to funding from the public trough.

THAT’S why Democrats keep winning elections around here.

I’m amazed at how pessimistic some are on here about Trump’s chances in PA! Obama only won by about 5 points in 2012. I’ve seen analysts saying PA is trending red. I think PA is definitely winnable for Trump.

Hope so. We were on the Train from the beginning and still are. That said he needs to focus on Clinton like a laser and hit her hard everyday.

Zero beat Minion by 5% here in 2012, 310,000 votes.

Dems are down 30% in primaries, so 207,000 is the number to beat. If Trump can flip just 50,000 of those voters, he only needs 107,000 new voters/indies to win.

This is very doable.

“Yep, I have noticed a not so upbeat mood at times.”

I have to admit, I am not upbeat a lot of the times. It's not about being defeatist. It's about seeing things go against us constantly the last 24 years.

It took me along time to come around and accept Trump. Now that I have, I realize he is the best candidate we have at putting up a fight. But that being said, I don't know how far he can get.

Hillary is the most protected woman on the planet. To us who pay attention, we know how corrupt she is and what a commie she is. Most people aren't like us and don't pay attention.

My biggest fear is the media. They will make sure she wins. They will cover up all her corruption. When Trump attacks her for it, he will be portrayed as male chauvinist bully picking on the poor little lady. Then people will be put off by Trump for that.

I held out hope that Bernie and his fans would revolt against Hillary and stay home or support the Green party or something. But now Bernie is going to meet with 0bama. You know what that means. His arm will be twisted, Bernie will come out as Ready for Hillary and the Democrats will unite behind her and she will cruise to victory.

I just see too much stacked against us. But there is little tiny part of me that has a bit of hope that 50 - 55% of electorate will go into full fledged revolt and vote for Trump We will find out in November.

All polls are garbage until you know the ticket on each side. Hillary will consolidate the democrats and Trump will probably consodidate the Republicans as always. I will be surprised if Hillary does an Obama like turnout which is why everywhere is in play at the end. I think Rand Paul will be the VP

It’s a tie at 44% to 44% head-to-head in PA, and this a Dem polling outfit and they do have a bias favoring the Dims. Trump has a great chance to take PA. Trump for the last year has defined the media as liars and Hillary sycophants, which has stuck to them like stink. Hillary can’t campaign worth a damn once this thing really gets started; Trump is the opposite.

I think what may happen is that, if after Bernie meets with Obama, he could also go indy who knows. It will be interesting.

The big worry I have is that there will be efforts at massive, massive voter fraud. Remember Hillary is not as well like as you think, but at the same time, there will be an effort by the Dems to do massive voter fraud.

Use to live in PA. PA is solid Dem. Drive through Scranton during election time feels like Soviet Russia on May Day. Union Dem propoganda everywhere.

Clinton’s family is buried there. Joe Biden was born there. However, Scranton, as well as many “Slate Belt” towns, have taken it in the pants due to Obama’s war on the coal.

Additionally, hunting in PA is a religion that spans both sides of the isle. Anyone who threatens the 2nd Amendment does poorly in the state.

If Trump hammers Hillary on energy and guns he will win PA.

If Trump emphasizes coal and the industrial sector jobs that have been lost, and how he will bring a lot of them back, plus her utter corruption, he will win going away.

Trump can take PA. Huge numbers of Democrats switched and not just for operation chaos style mischief. Hillary is close in places where there shouldn’t be a contest and I don’t think even Bernie or Obama could save her. Obama actually may make things worse.

Yep. We have the second most gun owners in the nation after Texas. It is a huge factor. Trump needs to add “the gun grabber” to the “Crooked Hillary” moniker.

PA is tailor made for Trump. Aside from Philly and Pittsburgh, it is old and white. PA is about 85% white which is astounding for a state that size. The Republicans are so pathetic that they can never make this state competitive at the national level. But Trump is different, and his message is perfect for the state. Manufacturing jobs have been decimated, union jobs in general have gone away, it is a strong 2A state, and pockets of the state have been overrun with illegals. My parents are still in PA as are many relatives in Luzerne County. It will be a close election, but I am very bullish on Trump’s chances here. It is a large state, so the numbers are always tight. 150,000 vote difference is usually about a 2-3% spread. It’s a winnable state for Trump.

Take a look at this. From another thread of bellwether counties from around the country. The Axiom Battleground Counties (ABC) survey. Notice your county mentioned... :-):

Is Hillary doing poor with Democrats because of Sanders like author suggested or because of Trump? Is Trump getting cross overs?
