Group punishment has been a hallmark of the military for a very long time. This isn’t new.
It was one of the many reasons I retired right dead on 20 years. I never liked it much. Never will.
The funny thing is that when I was in the Marine Corps Infantry I used to love to jerk my fellow Marine’s chains by referring to us as Naval Infantry. I have always been a sarcastic smart a$$. I didn’t do well in the infantry. But I had my corp of good buddies. We used to refer to the mission of the Marine Corp as being field day Thursday evening and inspection on Friday morning. I was in during the Reagan years and everyone was so scared of Reagan that it was a boring time to be a Jarhead.

Infantry training school (ITS) made boot camp seem like a cake walk. There was a reason why ITS was called fourth phase boot camp.
I did not like you armorers much. You all got promoted too fast and gave us too much shit when we were tired from an extended exercise and all we wanted to do was turn our weapons in and go on liberty.
Don’t feel bad. We were such pricks we even did it to each other!
But what if they are not in uniform? They should have written all Navy Military personnel.
Do you remember how you could always tell an M 16 that belonged to a line company Marine as opposed to an M16 that belonged to a weapons company Marine?
O-k, I’ll bite. How’s that?
I was in a HMG platoon in a Weapons company. I kid you not, I was in about 3 years before I ever saw an M2 browning with blueing on it. I thought they came light gray and shiny. But the M2 browning was always the biggest hit at the dog and pony shows. Every WWII, Korean, or Vietnam vet knew the M2 well no matter what their MOS. I heard more war stories about the M2 browning then I can even remember.
BTW, the manual says you can clean the M2 browning with hot soapy water. We and STA platoon shared an open squad bay right behind the company office because we were the smallest platoons in the company,excluding H&S. One time the first sergeant (MSGT) walked by the the showers and almost shit himself when he saw us cleaning our machine guns in the shower. We used to take toilet brushes and flatten them and use them to clean the guns while we were in the showers. But everyone of us had the page number memorized giving us permission to use hot soapy water. He walked away.
We did not have dry cleaning solvent at our armory but they had it in fifty five gallon drums at San Onofre where ITS was at. If we were in the area we used to fill up empty .50 cal ammo cans full of dry cleaning solvent so we could use it at our barracks. We never brought in on the armory grounds though.
Another case of the people that we are supposed to protect with the lives of our troops being hateful to those troops.
Trump is correct. Let’s go home and bugger the lot of them. The Japanese are rich and take advantage of us, the Germans are richer and won’t even think of having a real military as long as they can sponge from us.
Time these folks get back to reality. If you want our help then be nice to us.
Does the Crotch have accompanied tours now?
They sure did not in the “Old Corps.”
In my company on Okie we had one guy who had a motorcycle
and one Sgt. who was married to a local woman and had a car.
Some of the officers and staff NCOs had cars.
Of course the Air Force had accompanied tours and would ship households and cars.
I had to have my parents mail some of my uniforms and civvies to me and then mail back to them when I left because I had more than the 65 pound
maximum weight limit.
This is long saying no bar girls in Olongapo City during the Vietnam War!
Sorry, my source is ironclad. It does not extend to the USMC, the Army, or the Air Force. However, the Marines at US Navy bases have indicated that they will show “solidarity” with the directive.
If you were not issued armor,sword and a musket in boot camp you are not “Old Corps”.
