Brock Turner's father sparks outrage in rape case
A six-month jail sentence for Stanford swimmer Brock Turner, who was convicted of sexual assault, has caused public outrage. His father's letter asking the court for leniency has only fanned the flames.
"His life will never be the one that he dreamed about and worked so hard to achieve," Dan A. Turner wrote in the letter asking for probation. "That is a steep price to pay for 20 minutes of action out of his 20 plus years of life."
Turner had been convicted of sexually assaulting an unconscious woman behind a dumpster after both he and she attended a fraternity party.
In addition to the six-month jail term, Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Aaron Persky sentenced 20-year-old Brock Turner to three years' probation, ordered him to register as a sex offender and mandated that he complete a sex-offender-management program.
Turner's father wrote that "the fact that he now has to register as a sexual offender for the rest of his life alters where he can live, visit, work, and how he will be able to interact with people and organizations."
In an interview with the Washington Post, Santa Clara District Attorney Jeff Rosen criticized Turner's father for comparing a sexual assault to "20 minutes of action." He said that Turner "preyed upon" his victim and displayed violence during the assault.
Before the sentencing, the victim read the court an impact statement that has gone viral online. She said she had gone to the party to spend time with her sister.

if you want to get drunk and pass out, wear a girdle
To me that just rings true, the judge said. It sort of corroborates the evidence of his character up until the night of this incident, which has been positive.
The letter in question, however, includes a lengthy rant that places blame on the woman for being attacked: Im sure she and Brock had been flirting at this party and decided to leave together
I dont think its fair to base the fate of the next ten + years of his life on the decision of a girl who doesnt remember anything but the amount she drank.
Where do we draw the line and stop worrying about being politically correct every second of the day and see that rape on campuses isnt always because people are rapists.

Dauber said she would be launching a formal campaign this week to recall the judge from office, and a change.org petition calling for him to be removed has already garnered more than 45,000 signatures.
A spokesman for Santa Clara superior court said the judge was barred from commenting on this case while there is an appeal pending. After sentencing, Turners attorneys notified court that they intend to appeal the conviction.

And for decent people, the hardest and most painful is the rapists dad for even just 5 min.
The most bizarre thing about Cosby is that he had groupies hanging all over him. He doesn’t even have a nerdy loser justification. What a sick freak.
Why not castration plus penisdectomy?
You are evidencing my point about respect. I could say yes or no and fall into your rhetorical trap or I could ask you if she dumped you for ypur loss of looks or prowess. I choose to not continue a low level conversation about a ver serious social issue.
With all due respect, madam, you tried to trap me, especially your comment about a spouse that I don’t have. If I did have a spouse, it would be highly unlikely I’d have the time to spend here as I do. What is hilarious is that I get complaints one way or another. When I removed my page en masse, folks wanted to know why they were gone. When they’re up, I get complaints.
But the main problem I have here is that you tried to tie in having photos (most of which, btw, are head shots) with being responsible (or a causation) for a disordered young man with a disordered father getting it in their disordered head that raping some passed-out young woman by a trash bin is acceptable and justifiable behavior in any possible way. Simply put, it isn’t in the least. I suggest you look in any given newspaper ad for a department store which features a lot more skin than my paltry number of photos of attractive actresses. Will you or have you contacted them to demand any photos of attractive women must be removed lest some male be driven to lustful madness to violate a woman in the worst imaginable way ?
Photos, portraits, drawings, paintings and sculptures of attractive people have been around us since man first made art, and there is nothing wrong with that, madam. The Lord did make the human form, after all, and as a thing of beauty. At what point does personal responsibility, in the case of this young man’s inexcusable actions, instead of blaming others (to the point of said finger-pointing is really just a red herring) become the paramount concern ?
I hope you see my point here.
Agree.
Science is proving the points I have made. You are behind the curve.
Madam, that is an obtuse reply for which you offer no point of reference. Even to entertain your notion for a moment, what on earth does that then have to do with your bizarre, superfluous or downright irrelevant forays and speculations into discerning the situation with my personal life and relationship with a lost fiancée ? What precisely is your agenda here ?
I tried that once but still woke up with a horrible hangover...........
I investigated sex assaults for a long time. It’s the closest thing to murder, in my opinion. This kid deserves a lot more than six months. A lot more...
My opinion?
There might, conceivably be a justifiable reason to kill someone other than war or self-defense. Can’t think what it would be, but I can conceive that it might, might, exist.
I cannot think of any possible justification for rape, including war.
Hang ‘em high. OH! There’s another justifiable reason ton kill - capital punishment by the law
The rapists dad didn’t actually commit the crime in question.
For him only 15 minutes with the toughest brother, but only if the brother is allowed to use brass knucks and a nail studded club.
Would have been more afraid of them than the police
My father would have put me in a noose under the tree in the front yard, my mother would have kicked the chair out from under me.
I come from a pretty tough family; most folks would have called them harsh, I just called them SIR or MAM, sometimes Dad or Mom.
Doubt it. If he graduated, his yearbook would read "Most likely to become Brooke and pose for SI"
Seriously. Many, possibly all, college students drink too much at some point. No matter how drunk, normal people don’t rape unconscious people. He is like a poor man’s Bill Cosby: he didn’t have to even pay for the drug.
No, it does not. Crime is crime. Sounds like the kid got his attitude from his dad. Despicable human beings.
I don’t think he should have to register as an offense, but he should do 5 to 10 in prison.
