Thunderbird jet crashed Thursday after a flyover of the academy's commencement, which was attended by President Obama, the US Air Force said.

Bad news is that it completely missed.........nevermind....not going to say it.

There was an F-106 crash like that. Pilot stepped out of the aircraft mid flight, plane corrected itself and bellied in to a field. Plane was recovered, repaired and put back into service.

WWII a crew bailed out of a B-17 losing altitude and on fire. The pilot trimmed the B-17 up for a slow decent then he bailed out. Well the the fire put itself out and the plane made a perfect wells up landing in a field. The plane was in almost perfect condition.

BUT THERE'S ALSO BEEN A NAVY BLUE ANGEL CRASH this afternoon. There is still no word on that pilot's condition.

This crash occurred near Smyra, TN after a flyover of Nashville this afternoon. The crash occurred at roughly 3PM CDT.

When the jet was first fielded, they called it the “lawn dart.” When its single engine fails...

Much more unusual for fly-by-wire aircraft. Once the computer goes wonky the plane usually doesn’t stay straight and level. More likely to get a lawn dart.

The USAF usually hits targets much better than this.
